COMMENT

ロンジンの手掛ける、スキー用に製造された防水クロノグラフです。インナーベゼルには3時から7時、7時から12時方向へと赤いラインが描かれており、グラフィカルなアクセントを添えています。マット仕上げのブラックダイヤルには、赤いクロノグラフ秒針とペンシル型の時分針が組み合わされ、高い視認性を確保。インデックスは太めのバータイプで、中央には夜光塗料が施されています。3時に30分積算計、6時に12時間積算計、9時にスモールセコンドを備え、3時・9時のサブダイヤルはホワイトで色分けされた、1960年代らしいリバースパンダダイヤルです。

肉厚なケースを保っており、使用傷が目立ちますが、比較的良好な状態を保っております。ガラスは傷がなく、クリアな状態で視認することができます。ダイヤルはエイジングで若干黒くなっている部分がありますが、全体のシックな風合いを出すためのアクセントとして機能しています。針はくすみが最小の状態を維持しております。針とインデックスに塗布された夜光塗料は、ベージュやブラウンに変わっておりシックな意匠になっております。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

本モデルは、水上スキーが一般化し始めた1960年代に登場した8226系の一つで、スポーツ競技に即した機能と防水構造を持っています。ダイヤルにはアールデコの要素を取り入れた「エキゾチックダイヤル」が採用されており、ロレックスのポール・ニューマンモデルを彷彿とさせます。これらのダイヤルはシンガー社による製造で、同社のデザインはロレックス以外にも広く影響を与えてきました。ムーブメントには、バルジュー72をベースにしたロンジン手巻きのCal.330を搭載。名門ロンジンが手がけた、もう一つの“ポール・ニューマン”とも言える一本です。

COMMENT

This waterproof chronograph by Longines was purpose-built for water skiing, a sport that gained popularity during the 1960s. The inner rotating bezel features a distinctive red graphic line running from 3 to 7 o’clock and narrowing from 7 to 12, adding a bold visual accent. The matte black dial is paired with a red chronograph seconds hand and pencil-shaped hour and minute hands, ensuring high legibility. The bold bar indices are filled with luminous material, while the 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, 12-hour counter at 6, and small seconds at 9 are arranged in a reverse panda configuration with white sub-dials at 3 and 9—a quintessential 1960s design.

The thick case retains its original proportions, showing some visible signs of use but remaining in relatively good condition. The crystal is free from scratches, offering clear visibility of the dial. Minor darkening due to age is present on parts of the dial, contributing a refined, subdued aesthetic. The hands show minimal tarnishing, while the lume on both hands and indices has aged to warm beige and brown tones, giving the watch a tasteful vintage character. Fully disassembled and cleaned by our workshop.

This model belongs to the 8226 series released in the 1960s, during the rise of water skiing. It was engineered with practical features and water resistance tailored for sporting use. The dial showcases an "exotic" Art Deco-inspired layout reminiscent of Rolex's Paul Newman models. In fact, the dial was produced by Singer, a renowned dial maker whose designs influenced many brands beyond Rolex. The movement inside is Longines’ manually wound Cal.330, based on the legendary Valjoux 72. This piece can rightfully be considered Longines’ answer to the “Paul Newman” chronograph.
