COMMENT

流線型のケースサイドが印象的。ブラックマットダイヤルとホワイトのペンシル針の組み合わせが視認性を高め、実用性も兼ね備えています。インデックスには夜光塗料が施され、ミニッツはホワイトのプリントで表示され、シンプルでありながら、時刻の読み取りが非常にスムーズです。搭載されているムーブメントはムーンウォッチと同じCal.861で、サブダイヤルの配置はまさにスピードマスターらしいデザインです。

ケースは使用感が見られますが、全体のシルエットはしっかりと保たれています。ケース側面の流れるような面取りの稜線がしっかりと残り、好印象です。ダイヤルはエイジングによる変化が最小限で、美しいブラックを保っています。針はホワイトを鮮やかに保ち、ダイヤルとのコントラストでさらに際立ちます。針とインデックスに塗布された夜光塗料はベージュに変化し、ツートーンのダイヤルにアクセントを加えています。ブレスレットは固定リンク6-9個で、発売当時のテーパーです。弊社にて分解掃除済みです。

1970年代のクロノグラフとして象徴的な存在であるスピーディマークIIは、いわゆるCライン、トノー型、またはクッション型ケースといったトレンドを先導し、普及させました。

今でこそ「Speedmasterイコール宇宙」という図式がすぐに浮かび上がりますが、初期の世代は宇宙とは全く関係のない、純粋なモータースポーツ用の時計として誕生。また、スピードマスターは、ダイヤルではなく外周ベゼルにタキメーターを表示した世界で初めての時計と言われています。1959年、スピードマスターはマイナーチェンジをします。ベゼルがアルミニウムの黒色ベースとなり、針の形状がアロー針からアルファ針に変更されたことで、より視認性が高まっています。NASAは宇宙での過酷な環境にも耐えうる丈夫なクロノグラフを探しており、名だたる強豪に勝ったスピードマスターを公式時計として採用。その後1969年人類初の月面着陸の際、スピードマスターを着用していたことは有名なお話。

COMMENT

The flowing case sides give this watch a distinctive presence. The matte black dial, paired with white pencil hands, offers excellent legibility and practical appeal. Luminous markers and a clean white minute track ensure time is read effortlessly, while the sub-dial layout—driven by the same Cal. 861 movement used in the Moonwatch—embodies the classic Speedmaster aesthetic.

While the case shows signs of use, the original silhouette remains well-preserved. The sharp beveling along the case sides is still clearly defined, enhancing its overall impression. The dial has aged minimally, maintaining a rich black tone, while the hands remain vivid white, standing out in crisp contrast. The luminous material on the hands and markers has aged to a warm beige, subtly accenting the two-tone dial. The bracelet features 6–9 fixed links, representing the original taper from the time of release. Fully overhauled and serviced by us.

As one of the most iconic chronographs of the 1970s, the Speedmaster Mark II played a central role in popularizing C-line, tonneau-shaped, and cushion-style cases. 

BRAND

Today, the Speedmaster is synonymous with space exploration, but it began as a pure motorsport chronograph. It was also the first watch to display a tachymeter scale on its outer bezel rather than the dial itself. A 1959 redesign introduced a black aluminum bezel and switched the hands from arrow to alpha-style, improving legibility. When NASA searched for a chronograph tough enough to withstand space conditions, the Speedmaster outperformed all contenders and was selected as the official mission watch. Famously, it accompanied the Apollo 11 astronauts during the first moon landing in 1969—cementing its place in history.
