OMEGA Seamaster Ref.176.005 Jedi

COMMENT

厚みを抑えたトノー型ケースに、深みのあるメタリックブルーのダイヤルを組み合わせたRef.176.005。複雑な積算計をバランスよく配置した顔立ちは、1970年代のテクニカルなクロノグラフらしい力強さを備えています。文字盤外周の傾斜部にはタキメーターを備え、針やインデックスはホワイトで統一。中央に配された24時間表示のサブダイヤルが、均整を保ちながら個性的な表情を生み出しています。ブレスレットはオメガ純正Ref.1162、エンドリンク173が装備されています。

ケースは小傷こそ見られますが、エッジラインが明確に残されており、研磨されていない自然なフォルムを維持しています。ブルーダイヤルは艶感をしっかりと保ち、色剥がれは見受けられません。インデックスやロゴ、各種プリントは明瞭。夜光はエイジングにより落ち着いたベージュへと変化し、ヴィンテージらしい風合いを感じさせます。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

Cal.1040はレマニアとの共同開発によって誕生したオメガ初の自動巻クロノグラフムーブメントであり、後のCal.1041やスピードマスターの基盤を築いた重要なキャリバーです。複雑な機構を内部に収めながらも、ケース全体の厚みは抑制されており、当時の技術的到達点を示す一本といえます。“Jedi”の愛称で知られるこのモデルは、時計史の中でも興味深い位置づけにあり、機能美と設計思想が結実した完成度の高いクロノグラフです。

BRAND

今でこそ「Speedmasterイコール宇宙」という図式がすぐに浮かび上がりますが、当時は宇宙とは全く関係のない、純粋なモータースポーツ用の時計として誕生。また、スピードマスターは、ダイヤルではなく外周ベゼルにタキメーターを表示した世界で初めての時計と言われています。1959年、スピードマスターはマイナーチェンジをします。ベゼルがアルミニウムの黒色ベースとなり、針の形状がアロー針からアルファ針に変更されたことで、より視認性が高まっています。NASAは宇宙での過酷な環境にも耐えうる丈夫なクロノグラフを探しており、名だたる強豪に勝ったスピードマスターを公式時計として採用。その後1969年人類初の月面着陸の際、スピードマスターを着用していたことは有名な話。

COMMENT

Ref. 176.005 features a low-profile tonneau-shaped case paired with a deep metallic blue dial. The balanced arrangement of the multiple sub-dials gives the watch a bold and technical character typical of 1970s chronographs. A tachymeter scale is set into the sloped outer edge of the dial, while the hands and indexes are uniformly finished in white for clarity. A centrally positioned 24-hour sub-dial adds a distinctive visual accent without disrupting the overall harmony. The watch is fitted with an original Omega bracelet, Ref.1162, with 173 end links.

While the case shows minor signs of wear, the edge lines remain sharp and clearly defined, retaining its original, unpolished profile. The blue dial maintains its rich gloss with no signs of flaking. Indexes, logos, and all printed elements are crisp and intact. The luminous material has aged to a warm beige, giving the watch an unmistakably vintage charm. Fully disassembled and cleaned by our watchmaker.

The Cal. 1040 was Omega’s first automatic chronograph movement, co-developed with Lemania. It laid the foundation for later calibers such as the Cal. 1041 and was pivotal in the evolution of the Speedmaster line. Despite its complex construction, the case remains surprisingly slim, reflecting a high level of technical achievement for the period. Known among collectors as the “Jedi,” this model holds a unique place in horological history—an accomplished chronograph where mechanical ingenuity meets functional design.

BRAND

While the Speedmaster is now synonymous with space exploration, it was originally conceived purely for motorsport timing. Notably, it was the world’s first wristwatch to feature a tachymeter on the outer bezel rather than the dial. In 1959, the Speedmaster underwent a minor redesign: the bezel was changed to black aluminum, and the hands evolved from arrow to alpha shapes, enhancing legibility. NASA later adopted the Speedmaster as its official chronograph after it outperformed numerous competitors under extreme conditions. Famously, the Speedmaster was worn during mankind’s first lunar landing in 1969—a moment that cemented its legacy.
