BREITLING NAVITIMER Ref.806 Big Eyes

COMMENT

1.36ミリオン番台のナビタイマーは、ヴィーナス178を搭載するRef.806の最終型にあたります。初期型では真っ黒なダイヤルが採用されていましたが、セカンドジェネレーションにあたる1960年代になると、白いサブダイヤルと文字盤外周に白を配した、いわゆる“リバースパンダ”配色が登場します。その中でも後期型に分類される本機は、サブダイヤルが大きく、ダイヤルとインナーリングに赤のアクセントが入り、センタークロノ針の先端には夜光塗料が施されているのが特徴です。ロゴのみがプリント仕様で、それ以外のレターやスケールは下地出しで構成され、当時の手間を惜しまない製造姿勢が見て取れます。

ヴィンテージ・ナビタイマーは非防水仕様のため、湿気による劣化が見られる個体が少なくありません。本機はブラックミラーの艶やかなダイヤルが美しく保たれています。積算系インダイヤルやインナーベゼルは汚れが見られません。夜光はエイジングが見られますが、過度な劣化ではなく、落ち着いたヴィンテージらしい表情を湛えています。ケースは痩せが少なく、全体に傷もほとんど見られないミントコンディションです。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

COMMENT

This 1.36 million serial Navitimer represents the final generation of the Ref. 806 equipped with the Venus 178 movement. While early examples featured all-black dials, by the second generation in the 1960s, the so-called “reverse panda” design was introduced, combining white subdials and a white outer track for improved legibility. This particular late-model example adds striking red accents to the dial and inner scale, and the tip of the central chronograph hand is coated with luminous paint. Except for the printed logo, all other dial markings and scales are executed using the labor-intensive gilt technique, a testament to the meticulous craftsmanship of the time.

As with many vintage Navitimers, moisture damage is often an issue due to their non-waterproof construction. However, this piece retains a beautifully glossy black mirror dial free from blemishes. The subdials and inner bezel show no visible soiling. While the luminous material has aged, it has done so evenly, adding to the watch’s vintage charm without compromising its appearance. The case remains full and sharp, showing only minimal signs of wear—an exceptional example in near-mint condition. Fully overhauled by our watchmaker.

The Venus 178 is a highly regarded chronograph movement used in many iconic timepieces.
