COMMENT

幻とも称される6215-7000ダイバーの後継機にあたり、グランドセイコーにも採用された10振動のハイビートキャリバー6159Aを搭載したモデルです。堅牢なワンピース構造のケースは、大胆なカッティングによって力強いフォルムを形成しています。ベゼルは両方向回転式で、小気味よいクリック音を奏でます。ダイヤルはマットブラックで、外周のミニッツトラックは一段高く設けられ、視認性と高級感を両立。インデックスと針には縁取りされた夜光塗料が用いられ、62ダイバー同様、唯一無二の存在感を放ちます。当時の希少なオリジナルウレタンベルトが装着されています。

ケースは勲章のような細かな使用傷が見られますが、オリジナルの優れたプロポーションをしっかりと保持しています。ケースサイドやラグのエッジは立体感を保ち、ベゼルは微細な擦れが確認できるものの、黒々とした色調はしっかり残されています。約半世紀前の製品とは思えないほど、全体として鮮明な印象を維持しています。ダイヤルはミントコンディションで、マットな質感とともにレターやプリントの劣化は見られません。針やインデックスは良好な状態で、夜光塗料には黒ずみがなく、色味がしっかりと残っています。この夜光のコンディションは非常に稀で、保存環境の良さがうかがえます。弊社にて分解掃除を実施済みです。

Ref.6159-7001は、1969年に登場したセイコー初の“プロフェッショナル”ダイバーズウォッチであり、300m防水性能と堅牢なワンピース構造を備えた、当時の技術水準を結集したモデルです。搭載されたCal.6159Aは、グランドセイコーに採用された36,000振動の高精度ムーブメントをベースとして開発されました。本モデルは、冒険家・植村直己氏がエベレスト登頂時に着用していたことでも知られ、極限環境下での信頼性が実証されています。生産期間はわずか2年間と短命で、良い状態のものは現存数が少なく、ヴィンテージセイコーの中でも屈指の希少性を誇る一本です。

1960年代は、機械式腕時計は完成期とも言えるほどの発展を遂げた時期で、セイコーは精度コンクールの分野でも量産の分野でも、世界に追いつき、追いぬいた時代であった。同時に、「時計の電子化」が進展し、1969（昭和44）年12月にセイコーが世界初のクオーツ（水晶）腕時計を発売することにより、機械式腕時計からクオーツ腕時計へと大きく舵を切ろうとする時期でもあった。

COMMENT

This model is the successor to the legendary 6215-7000 diver and is powered by the high-beat Caliber 6159A, which also served as the foundation for Grand Seiko's 10-beat movements. The monobloc case is crafted with bold, angular contours, projecting a robust and powerful profile. The bidirectional rotating bezel delivers crisp, satisfying clicks, while the matte black dial features an elevated outer minute track, enhancing both legibility and visual depth. The applied hour markers and hands are outlined and filled with luminous material, echoing the unmistakable aesthetic of the earlier 6215-7000. A fine hairline finish graces the outer edge of the case, and the watch is fitted with an exceptionally rare original urethane strap from the period.

Though light wear marks—like badges of honor—can be seen on the case, its original proportions remain superbly preserved. The edges of the case sides and lugs retain their sharp definition, while the bezel shows only minor surface wear, with its deep black tone still intact. Despite being over half a century old, the watch retains a remarkably crisp presence. The dial is in mint condition, showing no deterioration in the print or surface texture. Both the hands and indices are in excellent shape, with the luminous material exhibiting no discoloration—a rarity that speaks to the exceptional storage conditions. The watch has been fully disassembled and serviced in-house, ready for immediate use.

The Ref. 6159-7001, introduced in 1969, was Seiko’s first professional-grade diver’s watch. It featured a monobloc case and 300m water resistance—hallmarks of the brand’s peak engineering capabilities at the time. Its Cal. 6159A movement was developed from the same high-precision 36,000 vph base used in Grand Seiko models. Notably, this watch was worn by famed adventurer Naomi Uemura during his ascent of Mount Everest, proving its reliability in extreme environments. With only a two-year production run, surviving examples are extremely scarce, making this one of the most coveted and historically significant vintage Seiko divers.

The 1960s were a period of significant advancements for mechanical wristwatches, with Seiko catching up to and surpassing global standards in both precision competitions and mass production. It was also an era when the shift toward the electronic age of watches began, culminating in Seiko's 1969 release of the world's first quartz wristwatch, marking a turning point from mechanical to quartz technology.
