1964年に誕生した、国産初の150m防水ダイバーズウォッチ、セイコー Ref.6217-8001。国内外で高い評価を誇り、“62MAS”の通称で広く知られています。細かなマイナーチェンジによって複数のバリエーションが存在しますが、本品は1967年3月以降に製造された、通称“蹄鉄ケースバック”を備える後期型モデルです。角ばったフォルムが特徴のCラインケースに、両回転式のベゼル、スクリューバック構造といった実用性の高い仕様が揃っています。ダイヤルはグレーのサンレイ仕上げで、深みのある質感が魅力。ムーブメントは手巻き機能を持たない自動巻きのCal.6217Aを搭載し、リューズ一段引きによる日付のクイックチェンジが可能で、日常使いにも適した設計となっています。

ケースは側面に小さな打痕が見られるものの、その他は目立つ傷がなく、全体として非常に良好なコンディションを保っています。ベゼルは経年変化により、味わい深いブラウンカラーへと変化しており、個体固有の美しさを備えています。ダイヤルは傷やくすみが見られず、ミントに近い状態を維持。針にはくすみがなく、輝きを見せる視認性の高い状態です。夜光塗料は針・インデックスともに崩れや変色が見られず、いまだホワイトを保っており、非常に希少なコンディションといえます。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

ガードレスケースにビッグリューズという、ヴィンテージダイバーズらしいディテールが満載の62MAS。このモデルを起点に、植村ダイバーや63ダイバーといった後の名作が続いていきます。日本製ダイバーズの歴史を語る上で欠かせない、原点にして頂点のような存在です。

The Seiko Ref. 6217-8001, released in 1964, was Japan’s first diver’s watch with 150m water resistance. Revered both domestically and internationally, it’s widely known by its nickname “62MAS.” Numerous variations exist due to minor design updates over time; this example is a late-production model manufactured after March 1967, distinguished by its so-called “horseshoe case back.” It features a C-line case with a bold, angular form, a bi-directional rotating bezel, and a screw-down case back—specifications that highlight its practical tool-watch nature. The dial is finished in a deep, sunray-textured gray, giving it rich visual depth. It houses the automatic Cal. 6217A movement, which lacks manual winding but features a quick-set date function via a single crown position—ideal for daily use.

The case remains in excellent overall condition, with only a minor ding on the side and no major visible damage elsewhere. The bezel has aged into a beautiful, unique brown tone—an appealing trait for collectors. The dial shows no blemishes or discoloration and is in near-mint condition. The hands are clean and retain their shine, providing excellent legibility. The luminous material on both hands and indexes remains bright white without signs of crumbling or discoloration, an exceptionally rare state of preservation. With its crown-guard-less case and oversized crown, the 62MAS showcases the defining details of a true vintage diver. It served as the foundation for later legends like the “Uemura Diver” and the 63 Diver. As such, it stands as both the origin and pinnacle of Japanese dive watch history—a timepiece that no serious collector should overlook.
