6時位置にスモールセコンド風の30分積算計を備えており、“一つ目クロノ”の愛称で親しまれているモデルです。曜日表示は日本語と英語の二か国語切替が可能で、リューズのプッシュ操作により日付・曜日・表示言語を順に切り替える設計となっています。搭載ムーブメントのCal.6139は、垂直クラッチとコラムホイールを備えた当時としては先進的な自動巻クロノグラフで、日本の技術水準の高さを体現する存在です。諏訪精工舎製のこのキャリバーは、国産として初めて量産化に成功した自動巻クロノグラフ機構を持ち、“61クロノ”の通称で広く知られています。

1960年代は、機械式腕時計は完成期とも言えるほどの発展を遂げた時期で、セイコーは精度コンクールの分野でも量産の分野でも、世界に追いつき、追いぬいた時代であった。同時に、「時計の電子化」が進展し、1969（昭和44）年12月にセイコーが世界初のクオーツ（水晶）腕時計を発売することにより、機械式腕時計からクオーツ腕時計へと大きく舵を切ろうとする時期でもあった。

COMMENT

This model is affectionately known as the “one-eyed chrono” thanks to its distinctive 30-minute sub-dial at the 6 o’clock position, reminiscent of a small seconds layout. The day display supports both Japanese and English, and the date, day, and language can be cycled sequentially via a push of the crown. Powering the watch is the Cal. 6139, an innovative automatic chronograph movement for its time, equipped with a vertical clutch and column wheel—technical features that reflected Japan’s advanced horological engineering. Manufactured by Suwa Seikosha, this caliber holds the distinction of being the first mass-produced automatic chronograph movement made in Japan, widely recognized under the nickname “61 Chrono.”

The 1960s marked a golden age of mechanical watchmaking, during which Seiko caught up with—and in many areas surpassed—its Swiss counterparts in both precision competitions and mass production. This era also witnessed the onset of watchmaking’s electronic revolution. In December 1969, Seiko launched the world’s first quartz wristwatch, forever changing the course of horological history and signaling a shift from mechanical to quartz technology.
