当サイトのブログでもご紹介しました、Speedmaster Ref.145.012トランジショナルモデルです。1968年の145.012から145.022へと移行する、わずか数ヶ月のみに生産された過渡期のものです。本来4thはアプライドのΩロゴにドロップエンドのセンタークロノですが、5thの意匠であるスクエアエンドが組み合わされています。他ステップダイアル、ツイストラグ、Cal.321とこの年式のスピードマスターに見られるディテールです。ケースはユゲニン・フレアー（HF=Huguenin Freres）製で、裏蓋の表記は145.012-68 SP（SP ＝ Special Poussoirs）です。オメガ純正の1039ブレスレット、FFは516番を装備しています。

パーフェクトなコンディションの、資料的価値が高い個体です。剥げの表れやすいベゼルはエイジングが最低限で、黒々しい当時のままを現存しています。ケースは右上のラグに若干のダメージが見られるものの、他に小傷の見られません。ケースのエッジが良く、ツイストラグのオリジナルプロポーションをご堪能いただけます。ダイアルはミントです。目立った汚れや傷がなく、ステップダイアルの陰影が美しいです。ホワイトプリントの針にダメージは見当たりません。アプライドのΩロゴはくすみが無く、上面の鏡面仕上げがキラリと光を反射します。また、ルミナスの色味が素晴らしいです。濃いベージュカラーで、ヴィンテージウォッチならではの表情を作り上げています。

実用としては、もちろん理想的な高級時計であり、時計コレクションの世界でも、オメガのスピードマスターは優れたタイムピースです。非常に希少なトランジショナルモデル、当店ではこのような珍しいスピードマスターをこれからも取り扱えるよう、日々取り組んでおります。

今でこそ「Speedmasterイコール宇宙」という図式がすぐに浮かび上がりますが、当時は宇宙とは全く関係のない、純粋なモータースポーツ用の時計として誕生。また、スピードマスターは、ダイヤルではなく外周ベゼルにタキメーターを表示した世界で初めての時計と言われています。1959年、スピードマスターはマイナーチェンジをします。ベゼルがアルミニウムの黒色ベースとなり、針の形状がアロー針からアルファ針に変更されたことで、より視認性が高まっています。NASAは宇宙での過酷な環境にも耐えうる丈夫なクロノグラフを探しており、名だたる強豪に勝ったスピードマスターを公式時計として採用。その後1969年人類初の月面着陸の際、スピードマスターを着用していたことは有名な話。

This is the Speedmaster Ref.145.012 Transitional Model, as featured on our website blog. It represents a transitional period from the 1968 145.012 to the 145.022, produced for only a few months. It combines elements of both the 4th and 5th models, featuring the square-end pushers typical of the 5th model but retaining the Omega logo with drop ends. Other details characteristic of this model year include the step dial, twisted lugs, and the Cal.321 movement. The case is manufactured by Huguenin Freres (HF) and bears the inscription 145.012-68 SP (SP = Special Pushers) on the case back. It comes equipped with the Omega genuine 1039 bracelet, fitted with the 516 end pieces.

While today the equation "Speedmaster equals space" quickly comes to mind, back then it was born as a pure motorsport watch with no connection to space whatsoever. Additionally, the Speedmaster is said to be the world's first watch to display a tachymeter on the outer bezel instead of the dial. In 1959, the Speedmaster underwent a minor change, transitioning to a black aluminum base for the bezel and changing the shape of the hands from arrow to alpha style, improving visibility. NASA was in search of a durable chronograph capable of withstanding the harsh conditions of space and chose the Speedmaster after it outperformed numerous competitors. The famous story of the Speedmaster being worn during the first manned moon landing in 1969 further solidified its status as the official watch for space exploration.
