COMMENT

オメガのレジェンド、スピードマスターRef.105.003です。1世代前のRef.2998と比べると、時分針がアルファ型からバータイプに変更され、視認性と現代性が高められています。後継のRef.145.012との最大の違いは、リューズガードがなく、ストレートラグを備えている点。ケース形状には無骨な魅力があり、スピードマスター本来のツールウォッチらしい風格を残しています。ムーブメントには伝説的なCal.321を搭載。ピラーホイール式クロノグラフにチラネジテンプ、巻き上げヒゲと、高級機ならではの仕様が惜しみなく投入されています。日本ではキャタピラーと称されるフラットリンクブレスレットは、Ref.7912とエンドリンク6、クラスプデイト66/1を装備しています。

全体としてコンディションは非常に良好で、ケースはラグのエッジがしっかりと立っており、ベゼルには使用感が見られるものの、焼けや褪色は最小限。ラグはツイストする前のスピードマスターに見られる、繊細な柔らかいエッジが確認できます。肉厚なフォルムを保ち、ヴィンテージとして理想的なプロポーションを維持しています。ダイヤルには目立った傷やくすみがなく、プリントも鮮明。針はオリジナルのホワイトを保っており、夜光塗料はベージュへと自然に経年変化し、落ち着いた雰囲気を醸し出しています。弊社にて分解掃除済みです。

NASAの公式採用により一躍名声を得たスピードマスター。その原点とも言えるプレ・ムーン期のRef.105.003は、ツールウォッチとしての実用性と、美しい意匠を兼ね備えた歴史的モデルです。特にこの個体は、オリジナル性が高く、コンディションにも恵まれた逸品。単なるヴィンテージではなく、現代にも通じる洗練された魅力を放つ、コレクターズピースにふさわしい存在です。

今でこそ「Speedmasterイコール宇宙」という図式がすぐに浮かび上がりますが、当時は宇宙とは全く関係のない、純粋なモータースポーツ用の時計として誕生。また、スピードマスターは、ダイヤルではなく外周ベゼルにタキメーターを表示した世界で初めての時計と言われています。1959年、スピードマスターはマイナーチェンジをします。ベゼルがアルミニウムの黒色ベースとなり、針の形状がアロー針からアルファ針に変更されたことで、より視認性が高まっています。NASAは宇宙での過酷な環境にも耐えうる丈夫なクロノグラフを探しており、名だたる強豪に勝ったスピードマスターを公式時計として採用。その後1969年人類初の月面着陸の際、スピードマスターを着用していたことは有名な話。

COMMENT

This is the legendary Omega Speedmaster Ref. 105.003, often regarded as the final iteration of the “pre-Moon” Speedmasters. Compared to its predecessor, Ref. 2998, this model introduces straight baton hands in place of the earlier Alpha style, improving both legibility and giving it a more modern aesthetic. What sets it apart most clearly from its successor, the Ref. 145.012, is the lack of crown guards and the presence of straight lugs—a case design that exudes a rugged, utilitarian character and stays true to the Speedmaster’s roots as a purpose-built tool watch. Inside, it houses the revered Caliber 321—a column-wheel chronograph movement featuring a screwed balance and Breguet overcoil, hallmarks of a high-grade mechanical chronograph. The bracelet is the flat-link “caterpillar” style (as it's nicknamed in Japan), featuring the correct Ref. 7912, end links No. 6, and a clasp dated 66/1.

This example is in outstanding condition overall. The case retains its full, sharp profile with well-defined lugs, and while the bezel shows signs of wear, there is minimal fading or discoloration. The watch retains its original robust silhouette, maintaining ideal vintage proportions. The dial is remarkably well preserved with no notable blemishes or fading, and the printed text remains crisp. The hands retain their original white finish, and the luminous material has gracefully aged to a warm beige tone, complementing the vintage appeal. The movement has been fully disassembled and serviced by our team.

Elevated to iconic status following its official adoption by NASA, the Speedmaster Ref. 105.003 represents the genesis of the Moonwatch legend. As one of the earliest models associated with space exploration, it embodies both tool-watch practicality and timeless design sophistication. This particular example, with its exceptional originality and condition, is far more than just a vintage timepiece—it’s a historically significant and aesthetically compelling collector’s piece with enduring relevance.

While today the name “Speedmaster” is synonymous with space exploration, the model was originally created purely as a motorsport chronograph. Notably, the Speedmaster was the first watch to feature a tachymeter scale on the bezel rather than the dial—now a standard design convention. In 1959, it underwent its first major update, with the bezel switching to a black aluminum insert and the hands transitioning from arrow to Alpha shapes for better legibility. In the early 1960s, NASA began searching for a chronograph capable of withstanding the extreme conditions of space. The Speedmaster outperformed its competitors and was officially certified for manned space missions. When the Apollo 11 astronauts landed on the Moon in 1969, it was the Speedmaster they wore—forever cementing its place in horological and human history.
