COMMENT

国産時計の最高峰、グランドセイコーの1stモデル、Ref.J14070です。1960年から1963年にかけて生産されたこのモデルは、厚さ80ミクロンの14カラット金張りケースに、程よく太めのラグを組み合わせた丸みのあるラウンドケースを備えています。ダイヤルはクリーミーなホワイトで、ゴールドケースとのコンビネーションにより、しっとりとした高級感が漂うフェイスを実現しています。インデックスは多面カットのバー、針は上面がフラットなドーフィンを採用。Grand Seikoロゴは彫り込みによるもので、1960年代後半から1961年中頃までの約1年間製造されたといわれます。6時上の星マークが付いたものは、SD文字盤と呼ばれ、インデックスには金無垢素材が使用されています。搭載ムーブメントのCal.3180は、セイコー初のハック機能を搭載したモデルです。

ケースには少々の傷が見られるものの、全体的に整ったシルエットが保たれており、良好な印象を与えます。ベゼルとガラスには目立つ傷がなく、美しい状態を維持しています。ダイヤルも非常に良好で、傷や汚れが最小限に抑えられており、ロゴやミニッツマーカーはオリジナルの状態をしっかりと保っています。厳正に判断しますと、40分方向やメーカーロゴ周り、20分から30分にかけて外周に微細な経年変化が確認できますが、現存するJ14070の中では良好なコンディションだと思われます。針はくすみが見られず、光を受けて美しく輝きます。また、インデックスはシャープなファセットを維持しており、全体的に高いコンディションを誇る個体です。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

Ref.J14070は1960年から数年間のみ製造された初代グランドセイコーです。本個体は精緻なダイヤル仕上げと高水準のオリジナル性を保持した、良好なコンディションで現存しています。国産時計の歴史を語るうえで欠かすことのできない一本であり、ファーストGSの持つ歴史的価値と象徴性を味わえる稀有な個体です。コレクションとしてはもちろん、国産高級時計の出発点を体感するための特別な一本といえるでしょう。

1960年代は、機械式腕時計は完成期とも言えるほどの発展を遂げた時期で、セイコーは精度コンクールの分野でも量産の分野でも、世界に追いつき、追いぬいた時代であった。同時に、「時計の電子化」が進展し、1969（昭和44）年12月にセイコーが世界初のクオーツ（水晶）腕時計を発売することにより、機械式腕時計からクオーツ腕時計へと大きく舵を切ろうとする時期でもあった

COMMENT

The Grand Seiko Ref. J14070 represents the very first generation of Grand Seiko, the pinnacle of Japanese watchmaking. Produced from 1960 to 1963, it features an 80-micron, 14-carat gold-filled case paired with generously shaped lugs, forming a softly contoured round silhouette. The dial is a creamy white that harmonises elegantly with the gold case, giving the watch a refined and quietly luxurious presence. The indexes are multifaceted bars, and the hands are flat-topped dauphine. The Grand Seiko logo is engraved—a detail believed to have been used only for about one year, from late 1960 to mid-1961. The star emblem above 6 o’clock denotes an SD dial, indicating that solid-gold material was used for the indexes. Inside is the Cal. 3180, Seiko’s first movement equipped with a hacking mechanism.

The case shows light surface wear, yet its overall silhouette remains well preserved, leaving a strong, cohesive impression. The bezel and crystal are free from noticeable marks and maintain an attractive clarity. The dial is also in excellent condition, with minimal signs of aging; the logo and minute markers remain crisp and original. The hands display no tarnish and catch the light beautifully, while the indexes retain their sharp faceted edges. Altogether, the watch presents a high level of preservation. Ref. J14070 was produced only for a few years beginning in 1960, marking the birth of Grand Seiko. This example remains in impressive condition, with finely executed dial details and a strong degree of originality.
