COMMENT

ツートンのダイヤルとブラックアルミベゼルの組み合わせが特徴で、中央のインダイヤルは視認性の高いレイアウトに仕上げられています。インデックスと針はシンプルなバータイプで統一され、外周にはチャプターリングとタキメータースケールを備えています。ケースはスナップバック構造の防水ケースで、クロノグラフ用のラウンドプッシャーを装備。ムーブメントには、Venus 188を原型としたカム式のValjoux 7730が搭載されており、その後の自動巻クロノグラフCal.7750へとつながる系譜に位置づけられます。

全体的に使用感はあるものの、クリアな印象を保った良好なコンディションです。ブラックの着色が抜けてグレーがかった通称“ゴーストベゼル”は、均一に色調変化しており、自然なエイジングとして高く評価できる状態です。ベゼルの刻印は明瞭で削れもありません。ダイヤルは経年変化が少なく、印字やレターの掠れも見られません。針のくすみもわずかで、赤いクロノグラフ秒針は鮮やかさを保っています。インデックスは光をよく反射し、視認性にも優れています。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

スプリントは、ブライトリングが当時投入したカジュアルクロノグラフの一角を成すモデルです。自動巻クロノグラフの開発競争が激化していた時期において、本機はコストパフォーマンスに優れた手巻きクロノグラフとして一定の支持を集めました。加えて、この個体に見られる“ゴースト化”したベゼルは、使い込まれた個体にだけ現れる独特の表情であり、ヴィンテージならではの魅力と言えます。ブライトリングが培ってきたクロノグラフの設計思想を、シンプルながらも創意あるディテールに落とし込んだ一本です。

BRAND

1884年、スイスのサン・ティミエに複雑時計製作の工房が設立されたのが＜BREITLING＞のルーツ。創業者のレオン・ブライトリングはクロノグラフ製作の才能に富み、博覧会では数々の賞を受賞、その名を世間に知らしめました。彼はエンジン飛行機が発展途上であった頃から航空産業の発展を確信し、飛行機のための時計や計器メーカーとして航空産業を支える意志を示しました。その意志を受け継いだ2代目ガストン・ブライトリングは世界初の腕時計型クロノグラフを開発するなど航空産業に多大な貢献をしています。“クロノグラフのスペシャリスト”として確固たる地位を築いた＜BREITLING＞は、今なお世界中で愛されている名門ブランドとして発展し続けています。

COMMENT

This model is defined by its striking two-tone dial and black aluminum bezel, with a well-balanced layout that enhances the legibility of the central sub-dials. The baton-style hands and hour markers maintain a clean, functional aesthetic, while a chapter ring and tachymeter scale encircle the dial for added utility. The waterproof case features a snap-back construction and round chronograph pushers. Inside, it houses the Valjoux 7730—a cam-actuated chronograph movement derived from the Venus 188, and a direct predecessor to the iconic self-winding Caliber 7750.

While signs of use are present, the watch remains in clear and well-preserved condition. The bezel has aged into a uniform grey tone—commonly referred to as a “ghost bezel”—a sought-after patina that adds vintage character. The engraved numerals remain sharp and legible, with no significant fading. The dial shows minimal aging, with crisp print and no loss of lettering. The hands show only slight oxidation, and the red chronograph seconds hand retains its vivid color. The applied hour markers reflect light effectively, contributing to excellent legibility. This watch has been fully serviced (overhauled) by our workshop.

The Sprint was part of Breitling’s offering of casual chronographs during the competitive era of automatic chronograph development. At the time, it stood out as a reliable and cost-effective hand-wound alternative. Notably, the ghosted bezel seen on this piece is a unique visual trait found only on well-worn examples, adding a layer of vintage charm. Simple in appearance yet rich in thoughtful design, this model reflects Breitling’s enduring expertise in chronograph engineering.

Founded in 1884 in Saint-Imier, Switzerland, Breitling began as a workshop specializing in complex timepieces. Its founder, Léon Breitling, was a gifted chronograph maker whose creations earned numerous accolades at international exhibitions.
