COMMENT

18金無垢の37mmジャンボケースは防水性を考慮したスナップバック構造です。ダイヤルはツートン仕上げで、内側はマット仕上げ、外側には同心円のヘアラインが施されています。12・3・9時位置のインデックス周りの鏡面仕上げ、独自のラインを描いてます。1950年代の作品群において、先進的な意匠です。バーインデックスとドーフィンハンドの組み合わせは典型的なもので、中央上に位置するアプライドのワンスターを引き立てています。

搭載ムーブメントのCal.120-1は、Zenithが1950年代に製造した手巻きムーブメント、秒針停止機能（ハック機能）を備えています。この機能は、正確な時刻合わせを可能にするため、当時のパイロットウォッチや高精度モデルに採用されていました。Cal.135と同様に、Ephrem Jobinによって設計され、精度と信頼性の高さで高く評価されています。

ほとんど使用されていないワンオーナー品で、当時のオリジナルストラップとバックルが付属します。ケースはオリジナルの面を残した素晴らしいプロポーションで、ラグの多角的なエッジが現存しています。ケースバックの刻印は擦れもなく、希少な個体のため大切にされてきたことが伺えます。ダイヤルはパーフェクトな状態で、エイジングが一切見られず、当時の質感をそのまま保持しています。

このダイヤルパターンのスモールセコンドバージョンは、Cal.135搭載のPort Royalに採用されていましたが、このような品があることに驚かされます。紛れもなく、当時のZENITHの最上位モデルにのみ採用されたデザインで、ダイヤル製造における最高のコストと、同社のビザールな美学が折り合わされています。ダイヤル径が大きいため、この複雑な意匠を存分に堪能できます。当時の日本では、貴金属製腕時計に高額な関税が課せられていたため、ZENITHは日本市場向けにケースの国内製造を承認しました。センターセコンド仕様のダイヤルは、それに合わせて作られたものでしょう。このモデルは本個体以外に存在の確認が取れていません。特注品またはごく少数の生産となり、このコンディションで現存するものは非常に稀かと推測されます。手に取った時の存在感は、ゼニスの歴史における重要ピースである予感をひしひしと感じさせる逸品です。

機械式時計の名機エル・プリメロで知られるスイスのブランド。1865年スイスのル・ロックルにて創業、「天頂」をブランド名称の由来とし、ムーブメントの開発および製造を自社で一貫して行っているマニュファクチュールブランド。その技術力の高さは、博覧会などで獲得した2000を超える賞の数々が物語っています。

COMMENT

The 18k solid gold case measures a generous 37mm and features a snap-back construction designed with water resistance in mind. The dial is executed in a two-tone finish: the center has a matte texture, while the outer ring displays concentric circular brushing. The mirror-polished areas around the 12, 3, and 9 o’clock indexes form unique contours—a progressive design even by 1950s standards. The combination of faceted baton indexes and classic dauphine hands is archetypal, drawing the eye toward the applied one-star emblem just below the 12 o'clock position.

Inside, the watch is powered by the Cal. 120-1, a manual-winding movement produced by Zenith in the 1950s. It features a hacking seconds function for precise time setting, a mechanism commonly reserved for pilot or high-precision timepieces of the era. Like the revered Cal. 135, this movement was designed by Ephrem Jobin and is celebrated for its outstanding accuracy and reliability.

This is a single-owner piece that appears virtually unused, accompanied by its original strap and buckle. The case maintains its original surfaces and crisp proportions, with the multifaceted edges of the lugs fully preserved. The engraved caseback shows no signs of wear, indicating that the watch was treasured and carefully stored. The dial is in perfect, untouched condition—no signs of aging—retaining its original texture and finish from the time of manufacture.

As a highly collectible example, this watch is being sold in its current state without disassembly or cleaning in order to preserve its exceptional condition. Opening the watch could potentially compromise the paint or finishing on the parts, so we have opted to leave it untouched and leave the final decision to the next owner. This particular dial configuration—with its concentric design—was originally featured on the small seconds version of the Cal. 135-powered Port Royal. Its presence in a center seconds variant is astonishing. Undoubtedly, this design was reserved for only the most prestigious Zenith models of the era, combining the brand’s extravagant aesthetic with the highest production costs in dial manufacturing. The oversized dial diameter allows every nuance of the complex design to be appreciated in full.

Due to heavy import duties on precious metal watches at the time, Zenith permitted domestic case production for the Japanese market. The dial with center seconds was likely made to accommodate that configuration. No other examples of this model are known to exist, suggesting either a bespoke commission or extremely limited production. Its preservation in this condition makes it an extraordinarily rare survivor—one that strongly evokes the sense of a historically important Zenith masterpiece.

Founded in 1865 in Le Locle, Switzerland, the brand takes its name from the "zenith" of the sky—symbolizing its pursuit of technical excellence.
