ジェラルド・ジェンタがデザインしたユニバーサル・ジュネーブのダイバーズウォッチ。ポールルーターサブの最初期モデルになります。大ぶりな42ミリのケースはEPSA社製のスーパーコンプレッサーです。2時の竜頭でインナーベゼルを、4時の竜頭で時刻を操作します。2時竜頭の方がやや大きいのが、オリジナルの特徴になります。ダイヤルはブラックギルト、メーカーロゴからインデックスまで全て下地出しでデザインされています。インナーベゼルはプリントで、▽から20まではルミナスを塗布しています。針は極太のペンシルで、水中での視認性が考慮されています。

搭載ムーブメントであるCal.218はマイクローターと呼ばれる機構を採用しています。自動巻きの回転錘を、ベースムーブメントに埋め込むように設計しており、機械の薄型化を実現しました。同世代と比べても多い、28石のルビーを用いています。コートドジュネーブと呼ばれる、波のような模様に、特殊な微動緩急針を備えたテンプなど、作り込みが素晴らしいです。

ケースは素晴らしいプロポーションです。最低限度の小傷のみで、エッジが立っています。ダイヤルはミントコンディションです。ブラックミラーダイヤルは当時の質感を保っており、光にかざすと僅かな縦ヘアラインのテクスチャが確認できます。インナーベゼルとインデックスのドット夜光、針夜光は芳醇なベージュカラーへと変化を遂げています。欠けが見られず、それぞれの色味が均一なのは高ポイントです。弊社にて分解掃除済みですので、ご購入後すぐお使いいただけます。

マーク1の製造期間は一年程度で、後年のものからは全てにおいてデザインが一新されます。ユニバーサルの歴史上、最重要ピースの一つであるこちらをコレクションされてはいかがでしょうか。

ユニバーサル・ジュネーブの歴史は二人の時計師、エミーユ・デコームとジョルジュ・ペレによって1894年スイスで創業されたところから始まる。高級感溢れるデザインウォッチや複雑時計の製造を得意とし、クロノグラフの名品＜コンパックス＞を開発したことで、その名を時計史に刻んだ名門のブランド。

Mark 1,   Super Compressor Case

COMMENT

This Universal Genève diver's watch, designed by Gerald Genta, is one of the earliest models of the Polerouter Sub. The large 42mm case features an EPSA Super Compressor design. The inner bezel is operated by the crown at 2 o'clock, while the time is adjusted using the crown at 4 o'clock. A distinctive feature is that the crown at 2 o'clock is slightly larger. The dial is black gilt, with the manufacturer's logo and indices all designed with an underlying surface. The inner bezel is printed, and luminous material is applied from ▽ to 20. The hands are thick pencils, designed for visibility underwater.

The Cal.218 movement features a microtor mechanism, designed to embed the automatic winding rotor into the base movement, achieving a thinner profile. It uses a higher number of rubies, 28, compared to its contemporaries. The movement also boasts intricate details such as a special micrometric regulator with a wave-like pattern called Côtes de Genève.

The case exhibits excellent proportions, with minimal scratches and sharp edges. The dial is in mint condition, retaining the texture of black mirror dial from the era, with slight vertical hairline texture visible under light. The luminous dots on the inner bezel and indices, as well as the hands, have aged to a rich beige color without any flaws, ensuring uniformity in color. The watch has been disassembled and cleaned by us, ensuring it is ready for immediate use upon purchase.

The Mark 1 was only produced for about a year, with subsequent models undergoing a complete redesign. This piece, being one of the most significant in Universal's history, would be a valuable addition to any collection.

The history of Universal Genève began in 1894 in Switzerland, founded by watchmakers Emile Decomb and Georges Perret. Specializing in luxurious design watches and complicated timepieces, the brand made a mark in horological history with its iconic chronograph, the Compax.
