COMMENT

光の角度によって表情を変えるツートーンダイヤルを搭載。針はロザンジュ型でエッジを効かせた造形を持ち、秒針は青焼きされたシャープな仕様です。インデックスは楔形を基調に、外周には半球状の夜光塗料が配置され、12時のみアラビア数字が配されています。3・6・9時はやや大きめの仕様で、中央には夜光が充填されています。外周に緻密なミニッツが刻まれており、実用性を高めています。ケースは片側にバネ棒穴を備えた設計で、ムーブメントはETA社Cal.1080をベースとしたCal.1182を搭載しています。

ケースは側面やベゼルの鏡面仕上げが美しく、ラグと上面に目立った傷が見られないため、清潔感のある好印象なコンディションです。ダイヤルは経年により繊細な線状のパティナが全体に現れており、ヴィンテージならではの風合いを醸し出しています。針はややくすみが見られ、光沢は控えめですが、全体のクラシックな雰囲気と調和しています。インデックスも落ち着いたトーンに変化しており、シックな表情が印象的です。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

ケース径はわずか28.7mmと、当時でも珍しい小型サイズ。通常34mm前後が主流であった中においても特筆すべきサイズ感ですが、ダイヤルのデザインやインデックスの存在感により、凝縮感があり、視認性もしっかり確保されています。40年代ならではの個性とヴィンテージの魅力が表れた一本です。

1930年代に＜ROLEX＞のディフュージョンブランドとして誕生。素晴らしい製造技術を誇りながらも、時計製造コストが高く認知度が低かった＜ROLEX＞に対して、低価格で一般庶民に親しまれた＜TUDOR＞。結果的には＜TUDOR＞が世間に認められたことで、＜ROLEX＞の認知度は急激に高まり、＜ROLEX＞は現在の「世界的に有名」なブランドとして認められるようになりました。

COMMENT

This piece features a two-tone dial that shifts in appearance depending on the angle of light. The hands are crafted in a raised lozenge shape, with a sharp, heat-blued seconds hand. The indexes are primarily wedge-shaped, and the outer track is accented with hemispherical luminous dots. Only the 12 o’clock position is marked with Arabic numerals, while the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock markers are slightly enlarged with luminous-filled centers. A detailed minute track runs along the perimeter, enhancing legibility and functionality. The case is designed with a spring bar hole on one side, and the movement is equipped with Cal.1182, based on ETA’s Cal.1080.

The case shows a clean impression, with polished surfaces on the sides and bezel that remain beautifully intact. No significant marks are visible on the lugs or upper surfaces. The dial has developed a fine linear patina across the entire surface, lending a rich vintage character. The hands show slight tarnishing with a subdued sheen that harmonizes with the watch’s classic atmosphere. The indexes have aged into a calm, muted tone, further adding to its refined charm. The watch has been disassembled and cleaned by our team.

Measuring just 28.7mm in diameter, the case is exceptionally compact—even by the standards of its era. At a time when sizes around 34mm were the norm, this smaller form stands out. However, thanks to the bold dial design and assertive indexes, it maintains strong wrist presence and readability. A highly distinctive piece that embodies the spirit and charm of 1940s vintage watchmaking.

BRAND

TUDOR was established in the 1930s as a diffusion line of ROLEX. At the time, ROLEX was admired for its technical prowess but was largely unaffordable and lacked broad recognition. TUDOR, by contrast, offered affordable watches with reliable quality, gaining popularity among the general public. As TUDOR’s reputation grew, it indirectly elevated ROLEX’s name as well—eventually helping it become the globally renowned brand it is today.
