エッジの効いたCラインケースに両方向回転ベゼル、スクリューバック構造など、当時の最先端をいく実用的な設計が詰め込まれています。グレーのサンレイダイヤルは、光の加減で豊かな表情を見せ、視認性と美観を両立。ムーブメントは自動巻きのCal.6217Aを搭載し、手巻き機能こそありませんが、リューズ一段引きによるクイックチェンジを備えており、実用性を高めます。

ケースは全体的にシャープなフォルムを保っており、上面のヘアラインが明瞭に残存。ベゼルに若干の傷が見られますが、ブラックカラーの退色はほとんどなく、均一な印象を保っています。ダイヤルはエイジングの影響が少なく、グレーの色味や質感がしっかりと残っています。針はくすみや傷がほとんどなく、インデックスや針に塗布された夜光はホワイトの発色を維持。部分的に黒ずみが見られる箇所がありますが、ヴィンテージらしい表情といえるでしょう。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

ガードレスケースにビッグリューズ、そして彫りの深いインデックスや太めの針など、62MASはヴィンテージダイバーズの魅力が凝縮されています。このモデルを出発点として、植村ダイバーや63ダイバーなどの名機が生まれていったことを思えば、まさに日本製ダイバーズの原点にして象徴ともいえる存在です。製造から半世紀以上を経てもなお、確かな機能美と造形美を保つ一本として、コレクションの中でも特別な位置づけとなることでしょう。

Introduced in 1964, the Seiko Ref. 6217-8001 holds the distinction of being Japan’s first diver’s watch with a water resistance rating of 150 meters. Widely known by its nickname “62MAS,” it has earned acclaim both domestically and abroad. The sharp-edged C-line case, bidirectional rotating bezel, and screw-down caseback exemplify the cutting-edge utilitarian design of its time. The grey sunburst dial offers a dynamic interplay of light and shadow, balancing high legibility with refined aesthetics. Powering the watch is the automatic Cal. 6217A, which, though lacking a manual winding function, features a quickset date via the first crown position—an enhancement in practical usability.

The case retains its crisp profile with clearly defined hairline finishing across the top. While minor wear is visible on the bezel, the black insert has retained its color remarkably well, presenting a uniform, cohesive appearance. The dial shows minimal signs of aging, preserving the integrity of its grey tone and texture. The hands remain largely free of blemishes, while the luminous material on both the indexes and hands retains its original white hue. Subtle darkening in isolated areas adds a vintage character to the overall impression. Fully disassembled and cleaned by our workshop.

The absence of crown guards, the oversized winding crown, and the deeply carved indexes paired with bold hands—all of these traits capture the essential charm of vintage diver’s watches. As the foundational model for subsequent icons such as the “Uemura Diver” and the 63 Diver, the 62MAS stands as both the origin and the emblem of Japanese-made dive watches.
