特徴的なフジツボ型の大型ケースは、放射状に施されたヘアライン仕上げにより、力強く印象的な外観を形づくっています。クロノグラフに加えて多機能を搭載し、飛行士の多様なニーズに応える特別な設計です。インナー回転ベゼルは8時位置のリューズで操作でき、経過時間の確認が可能です。青色のデュアルタイム針は10時位置のリューズによって独立調整ができ、異なるタイムゾーンの時刻を同時に表示できます。9時位置の24時間計と、風防には膨らみを帯びたガラス製のドーム型が採用されており、1stモデルならではの仕様です。ダイヤルのアワーマーカー12時位置は2つのドットがなく、クロノグラフ用のプッシャーはラウンドサインで、初期型の仕様を見ることができます。

ケースはオリジナルのヘアラインが明瞭に残っており、全体としてシャープな印象を維持しています。6時側のラグに凹みが見られますが、ノンポリッシュの証と言えます。ダイヤルは全体がブラウンへと変化しており、インダイヤルには色の濃淡による豊かな表情が現れています。インデックスに施された夜光塗料は、程よいベージュへと経年変化しており、ヴィンテージならではの風合いを醸し出しています。9時位置の24時間計に残るオリジナルのグリーンカラーは、他の要素のエイジングとのコントラストを生み、当時の姿を感じさせるポイントとなっています。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

COMMENT

The signature barnacle-shaped oversized case features a bold, radially brushed finish that gives the watch a striking and powerful appearance. In addition to its chronograph function, the Flightmaster was specially designed to meet the diverse needs of pilots. The inner rotating bezel can be operated via the crown at 8 o'clock, allowing for elapsed time tracking. The blue dual-time hand is independently adjustable via the crown at 10 o'clock, enabling simultaneous display of a second time zone. The 24-hour subdial at 9 o'clock compensates for the absence of a running seconds hand, and the domed crystal is made of glass—an exclusive specification of the 1st generation model.The dial does not have two dots at the 12 o'clock hour marker, and the chronograph pushers have a round sign, showing the specifications of the early model

The case retains its original radial brushing, maintaining a sharp and defined appearance overall. A dent is visible on the lower right lug (6 o’clock side), but the rest of the case remains in excellent condition. The dial has aged into a rich brown tone, with the subdials displaying nuanced gradations that add visual depth. The luminous material on the indices has aged into a warm beige, exuding a classic vintage charm. The original green hue preserved on the 24-hour register at 9 o’clock offers a nostalgic contrast to the other aged components, enhancing the sense of historical authenticity. The watch has been disassembled and cleaned by our workshop.

While the Speedmaster's association with NASA is widely known, the Flightmaster was adopted by the Soviet space agency ROSCOSMOS and has carved out its own legacy during the space race era. This early model, worn by real astronauts, embodies the engineering spirit and design philosophy of its time.
