COMMENT

現在の自動巻きのスタンダードを創り上げたエテルナマティック、1948年に発表され世界中を驚かせました。今回はその一年前にあたる、1947年製のエテルナをご紹介します。エテルナマティックの前身にあたるバンパー式ムーブメントを搭載しています。ダイヤルはカッパー×シルバーのブルズアイ。知的でリラックスした配色です。中央が若干隆起したボンベダイヤルで、ヴィンテージらしい立体感のある顔つきをしています。根元がくびれたペンシルハンドはルミナスをたっぷりと塗布しています。秒針の先端には赤のプリントを施しています。ブルズアイのちょうど境目とリンクしており、視認性を考慮したものです。このレッドトップは後年まで継承されました。

ケースは研磨歴が感じられない、良好なプロポーションです。小傷も少ないことから、保存環境の良いところで永らく保管されていたことがわかります。ダイヤルは全面にポツポツとしたエイジングが現れています。色味に変化は見られないため、着用時にはほとんど気になりません。アラビアのインデックスはぶち模様にエイジングしています。当店にて分解掃除済みで、45時間のパワーリザーブを確認しています。

屋号をダイアルに明記するいわゆるWネームの腕時計は、文字通りに高嶺の花でした。6時位置には当時のハバナのイタリア大通り（通称ガリアーノ通り）に位置した「LE TRIANON」が入ります。LE TRIANONはハバナで最も高級な宝飾店の一角として数えられてましたが、1950年代後半にキューバ革命の影響により閉店しました。時代の変遷に埋もれた名品を堪能する絶好の機会です。

1948年には、Eterna-matic（エテルナマティック）自動ムーブメントを開発した。それは自動巻き時計の歴史に革新をもたらすもので、ボールベアリングを5つ配置することによりムーブメントの効率性を高め、バネを摩耗させる摩擦や抵抗を最小限にとどめることを可能にした。内部パーツの疲労が減じ、時計の正確さを高めるとともに、耐久年数を長くした。エテルナマティックは大ヒットとなり、エテルナの看板商品になった。

We present a remarkable Eterna timepiece manufactured in 1947, just a year before the introduction of the Eterna-matic, which went on to establish the current standard for automatic movements in 1948, surprising the world. This particular watch is equipped with the predecessor of the Eterna-matic, featuring a bumper automatic movement. The dial exhibits a sophisticated and relaxed color scheme with a copper and silver bullseye design. The slightly raised center of the bombé dial adds a three-dimensional aspect, typical of vintage aesthetics. The pencil hands, tapering towards the base, generously apply luminescence for enhanced legibility. The red print at the tip of the second hand is a thoughtful detail, linking with the bullseye and contributing to improved visibility—a design element later inherited for years to come.

The case maintains an excellent proportion without noticeable signs of polishing, suggesting a well-preserved timepiece that has been stored in favorable conditions. The minimal scratches further emphasize its careful storage history. While the dial displays a scattered aging pattern, the overall color remains consistent, minimizing any visibility concerns during wear. The Arabic indexes exhibit aging with a speckled pattern. Having undergone disassembly and cleaning at our shop, the movement demonstrates a 45-hour power reserve.

This wristwatch features the rare characteristic of a W-name, with the "LE TRIANON" marking at the 6 o'clock position, referring to the renowned high-end jewelry store located on the Italian Avenue (commonly known as Galiano Avenue) in Havana. Although LE TRIANON was considered one of the most luxurious jewelry stores in Havana, it closed its doors in the late 1950s due to the impact of the Cuban Revolution. This timepiece offers a fantastic opportunity to appreciate a masterpiece that has been buried by the changes of time.

In 1948, Eterna developed the Eterna-matic automatic movement, a groundbreaking innovation in the history of automatic watches. This movement improved the efficiency of the movement by placing five ball bearings, minimizing friction and resistance, reducing fatigue in internal parts, enhancing the accuracy of the watch, and extending its durability. Eterna-matic became a huge success, becoming the flagship product of Eterna.
