Ref.769は、クロノマットの1stモデルで、角形プッシャーやパテントナンバーの印字、そして外周と内周で仕上げを切り替えたツートーンダイヤルなど、1stならではの魅力が凝縮されています。ノールミナス仕様で、アラビアインデックスはギルト。ブルースチール針に積算針は赤いペイント針の組み合わせです。ムーブメントにはクラシカルなクロノグラフの代表機、Venus 175を搭載。ピラーホイールとキャリングアーム、チラネジ付きの大型テンプにブレゲヒゲという高度な構成で、高精度を追求した設計が魅力です。

ほとんど使用されていない、コンディションに秀でます。ボックス、当時のレザーとバックルが付属。ケースはラグとのシームレスなラインが美しいです。ブライトリングの航空時計は防水性は考慮されておらず、それ故にダイヤルやインサートにダメージがあるものがほとんどですが、コンディションの良さが最大の魅力。資料価値として非常に貴重な個体です。アンタッチ、分解掃除は行っておりません。

シリアル479+++、1940年代前期に製造された、クロノマットの中で最初期の個体にあたります。このモデルが持つ最大の魅力は、ねじ留めのベゼルです。インサートはダイヤルと段違いに設置されています。ムーブメントのクロノグラフブリッジにはメーカー名が、まだ明記されていません。これらは最初期のクロノマットの特徴です。クロノマットの歴史を語るうえで欠かせない貴重な存在です。

COMMENT

Ref. 769 is the very first model of the Chronomat line, showcasing hallmark features unique to this inaugural release—square pushers, a printed patent number, and a two-tone dial with contrasting finishes between the inner and outer sections. It is configured in a no-lume specification with gilt Arabic numerals, complemented by blued steel hands and a red-painted chronograph hand. Powering the watch is the classical Venus 175, a highly regarded chronograph movement equipped with a column wheel, carrying arm, oversized balance with regulating screws, and a Breguet overcoil—an architecture designed with high precision in mind.

This particular piece remains in outstanding condition with minimal signs of use. It comes complete with its original box, period-correct leather strap, and buckle. The case features a beautifully seamless transition between the lugs and mid-case. As a pilot’s chronograph, water resistance was not a consideration in the design, which is why dials on these models often show damage. However, this example stands out for its exceptionally well-preserved dial—a key attraction and a testament to its archival value. Please note that no servicing has been performed, as this watch is being offered as a true collector’s item.

Bearing serial number 479+++, this example dates to the early 1940s and ranks among the very first Chronomat pieces ever produced. Its most distinctive feature is the stepped bezel secured by screws—a design element exclusive to the earliest generation. Additionally, the movement bridge lacks a manufacturer’s engraving, another early trait. These details make it an invaluable reference piece in the history of the Chronomat and an exceptionally rare find for serious collectors.
