The “Mark III” Ref.176.002, introduced around 1971, represents a defining chapter in the evolution of the automatic Omega Speedmaster. Its distinctive TV-screen case measures approximately 41 × 51 mm, with a horizontally extended tonneau profile that delivers substantial wrist presence. The sculptural form, often nicknamed the “Volcano,” reflects the era’s bold design language. Powering the watch is Cal.1040, Omega’s early automatic chronograph movement based on the Lemania 1340 architecture. Its rational display layout—most notably the central chronograph minute counter—forms the technical core of this reference.
