COMMENT

サントスはブレスレットとベゼルがビスで彩られた、カルティエのスポーティーを象徴するデザインです。指輪ではビスを用いた「LOVE コレクション」が1970年代から製造されています。8角形のベゼルが華やかなサントスオクタゴンは、1990年頃に製造が終了しており、ビンテージならではの意匠です。文字盤はポーセリンのようなラッカーホワイト。ミニッツトラック、ローマインデックス、サークルラインのコンビネーションが美しいです。ブルースチールのバトン針と、カボジョンリューズの貴石の色味がマッチしており、良いポイントカラーとなります。

ケースは側面のヘアラインが維持されている良い状態。ダイヤルはミントコンディションです。通常この年代のダイヤルは日々が入っているものが多いのですが、当時の美しい状態を維持しています。針やインデックスは輝き、トータルコンディションに優れた一品です。弊社にて分解掃除済みです。

平面カットされたブレスレットは陽光でキラキラと輝き、良質なバングルを着けているようです。LMサイズのサントスオクタゴンは、近年入手が難しくなってきていますが、自動巻きともなれば尚の事です。当店でも久しぶりのご紹介ですので、是非ご検討ください。

1900年代、飛行士サントス・デュモンが飛行中に時刻を確認できるようカルティエにオーダーしたのが「サントス」の始まり。そのサントスのなかでも八角形型モデル「サントスオクタゴン」は、平面上にカットが入ったブレスが、腕を動かす度にキラキラと煌めきます。シンプルながらもエレガントな印象を与えるモデルです。

COMMENT

The Santos is one of Cartier’s defining sporty designs, distinguished by the screws that decorate both the bracelet and bezel. Cartier has also used the screw motif in its LOVE collection of jewelry since the 1970s. The Santos Octagon, with its striking eight-sided bezel, was discontinued around 1990 and has a design character that feels distinctly vintage today. The dial is a porcelain-like lacquered white, with a beautiful combination of a minute track, Roman numerals, and circular line detail. The blued steel baton hands are well matched with the color of the cabochon-set crown, adding an attractive point of color.

The case remains in good condition, with the brushed finish on the case sides still visible. The dial is in mint condition. Many dials from this period show cracking, but this example retains its beautiful original appearance. The hands and indexes retain a bright finish, and the watch is excellent in overall condition. The flat-faceted bracelet catches the sunlight beautifully, giving the impression of wearing a fine bracelet. LM-size Santos Octagon models have become increasingly difficult to find in recent years, and automatic examples are especially scarce. This is the first one we have been able to offer in some time, making it a highly appealing example for anyone seeking a vintage Cartier with strong presence and practical wearability.

The Santos traces its origins to the early 1900s, when aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont asked Cartier to create a watch that would allow him to read the time while flying. Among the Santos family, the Santos Octagon is distinguished by its eight-sided bezel and flat-faceted bracelet, which sparkles as the wrist moves. It is a model that offers a simple yet elegant impression.
