COMMENT

通称ドッグレッグと呼ばれるラグの力強い造形が、コンステレーションらしい存在感を際立たせています。このデザインは1960年代後半から1970年代に多く見られますが、本作が属する1962年製の初期5桁リファレンスでは製造数が限られており、当時のラインナップの中では稀少なバリエーションといえます。ダイヤルはブラックミラーに下地出しレターのギルト仕様、さらにクロスラインが加わることで端正で引き締まった表情を見せています。後年はデイト付きが主流となるため、このケースにノンデイトダイヤルが組み合わされることで、年代をまたぐような独特の調和が生まれています。ブレスレットはRef.1502のビーズ・オブ・ライスにエンドリンク12を備え、全体を品よくまとめています。

ダイヤルは経年によりまだらな表情を帯びていますが、ミラー特有の艶感が残り、ヴィンテージらしい魅力が十分に感じられます。針はダイヤルと同時代の落ち着いた経年が見られ、自然な整合性があります。インデックスは光をよく捉えており、美しい状態を維持しています。夜光塗料は穏やかにベージュへ変化し、全体の雰囲気に柔らかく溶け込んでいます。ケースは打痕が少なく良好なコンディションで、ガラスにも視認性を損なう傷はほとんどありません。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

コンステレーションの中でも、ノンデイト仕様のドッグレッグ Ref.14900 は生産数自体が少なく、ブラックギルトダイヤルを備えた個体はとりわけ希少です。1960年代初頭までの台形ファセットを持つ12・3・6・9インデックスや、六時位置のT無しSWISS MADEなど、年代的整合性が随所に宿る一本で、控えめながら深い魅力を湛えたオメガの好個体です。

この世代のオメガの機械は自動巻効率が優秀なため、手巻きを必要とする場合がほとんどありません。コンステレーションのオリジナル竜頭は、デザイン性を重視しています。手巻きし難いなど、マニュアルでの操作が重い感じますが、オリジナルの仕様であり、問題ありません。

COMMENT

The powerful, angular lugs—commonly known as “dog-leg” lugs—give this Constellation its distinctive presence. While this design became more widespread from the late 1960s into the 1970s, it remains uncommon in early five-digit references such as this 1962 example, making it a notably rare variant within the period’s lineup. The dial is a black mirror with gilt, recessed lettering, further enhanced by crosshair lines that lend a crisp and disciplined appearance. Although later years saw the dominance of date-equipped models, the pairing of this case with a no-date dial creates a unique harmony that bridges stylistic eras. The watch is fitted with a Ref. 1502 beads-of-rice bracelet with 12 end links, completing the piece with refined balance.

The dial shows mottled ageing, yet retains the lustre characteristic of mirror finishes, offering abundant vintage charm. The hands exhibit ageing consistent with the era, ensuring a natural coherence with the dial. The indexes catch the light beautifully and remain in excellent condition. The luminous material has aged gently into a soft beige tone, blending harmoniously into the overall aesthetic. The case shows minimal impact marks and remains in very good condition, and the crystal is free from scratches that would affect legibility. Fully serviced by our watchmaker.

Among Constellation models, the no-date dog-leg Ref. 14900 is scarce in production overall, and examples with black gilt dials are especially rare. Details such as the trapezoidal faceted indexes at 12, 3, 6, and 9—typical of the early 1960s—and the “SWISS MADE” signature without a “T” at six o’clock reinforce the period correctness of this piece. Quiet yet deeply appealing, it stands as an excellent vintage Omega.

Movements of this generation are known for their highly efficient automatic winding, making manual winding seldom necessary. The original Constellation crown prioritises aesthetic design; hand-winding may feel somewhat firm or less accessible, but this is inherent to the original specification and does not present any functional issue.
