Known as the “Self-Dater,” it is the later version featuring a date display not found on the original Grand Seiko. The silver sunburst dial is fitted with substantial applied baton indexes and sharply defined dauphine hands. In place of the “CHRONOMETER” inscription seen on earlier examples, the lower half of the dial carries an applied GS emblem together with “GRAND SEIKO” and “DIASHOCK” printing. Broad, projecting lugs and a slim bezel give the watch a clean yet substantial profile.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe case shows fine scratches from use, though the bevels at the tips of the lugs and the defined lines extending into the case sides remain well preserved, retaining the sculpted proportions characteristic of the 57GS. The dial displays slight aging, while its sunburst finish and printed details remain clear. The multifaceted hands and indexes retain their reflective finish, and the applied frame surrounding the date window at 3 o’clock is also in good condition. The gold-tone GS medallion on the case back shows fine scratches but retains its lettering and design clearly. The original W SEIKO-signed crown remains fitted. Developed from the preceding Cal.5722A, its frequency was increased from 18,000 to 19,800 vibrations per hour in pursuit of improved accuracy. It is equipped with a quick-set date and hacking seconds for precise time setting. Its robust construction, with a large bridge and fine regulator, reflects an important stage in Grand Seiko’s development toward the high-beat era.
