オフホワイトのダイヤルにブラックプリントのローマンインデックスを配し、内側へレールウェイ式のミニッツトラックが整然と刻まれています。ブルースチール製のバトンハンドが上品なアクセントを添え、リューズにスピネルカボションがセットされています。ゴールドケースとブラック・ホワイト・ブルーのコントラストが、クラシカルかつ洗練された印象を与える構成です。

ケースは上面の傷が最小限に抑えられたグッドコンディション。裏蓋に軽微な擦れが確認されますが、着用時は目立たず全体の印象を損ねません。ダイヤルはわずかなエイジングを見せるものの、色調の変化は穏やかで均一に保たれています。針はブルースチール特有の色味が経年で落ち着きを帯び、ヴィンテージらしい深みを感じさせます。インデックスはプリントの欠けがなく、当時の艶を維持しています。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

本作は「must」表記が入る直前に製造された、いわゆる“プレマスト”期のタンクモデルです。初代タンクの意匠を忠実に受け継ぎながらも、円錐形状のスピネルリューズやEU圏向けのデザインが特徴で、“ヨーロピアンスタイル”とも呼ばれています。タンクシリーズの長い歴史の中でも、時代の移行期を象徴する希少な一本であり、コレクションピースとしての価値を備えつつ、現代の装いにも静かに調和する気品を湛えています。

現在では、ジュエラーとして名高いカルティエですが、まだ懐中時計が主流だった1904年に本格的な腕時計を製作したのはカルティエが最初でした。「タンク」という名前は、“戦車”を意味し、第一次世界大戦中の終結に貢献したといわれる、ルノー製の戦車がデザインの基となっています。

COMMENT

The off-white dial features crisp black Roman numerals framed by a precisely printed railway minute track. Blued steel baton hands add a refined touch, complemented by a crown set with a spinel cabochon. The interplay of gold, black, white, and blue creates a harmonious contrast, achieving a timeless balance of classical elegance and sophistication.

The case remains in very good condition, with minimal marks on the upper surface. Light scuffs are visible on the caseback but are unobtrusive when worn. The dial shows gentle, even aging with no noticeable discoloration, maintaining a calm, consistent tone. The blued steel hands have developed a subdued patina, enhancing their vintage character, while the numerals retain their original gloss and crisp print. Fully serviced by our watchmakers.

This piece belongs to the so-called “Pre-Must” era of the Cartier Tank, produced just before the introduction of the “Must de Cartier” line. It faithfully preserves the aesthetic of the early Tank while featuring distinctive elements such as the conical spinel crown and design cues tailored for the European market—often referred to as the “European style.” A rare transitional model marking a key chapter in the Tank’s evolution, it combines collectible value with understated refinement, embodying a quiet elegance that remains effortlessly relevant today.
