ケースはフランスのメーカーMONNIN社による外注製で、リューズガードに丸みを帯びた独特のディテールを備えています。深度定格や逆回転防止ベゼルなど、サブマリーナと多くの特徴を共有しながらも、39.5mm径のロレックスに対し、本モデルは42mmとひと回り大きく、存在感のあるサイズです。時針にはコブラハンドを採用し、「professional」のフォントや「MADE IN FRANCE」の表記は、初期モデルに特有のディテールです。さらに、この年代のダイバーズウォッチとしては珍しくガラス風防を採用しており、当時としては革新的な設計思想がうかがえます。ムーブメントはフランスメーカー、Cupillard社の4611Aを搭載しています

ケースはしなやかなケースラインが保たれています。ベゼルはダメージの受けやすいパーツですが、本品は状態良好で、外装全体として高い評価に値します。ダイヤルは経年劣化のない清潔なコンディションを維持。インデックスの夜光は均一にエイジングしており、不自然な手の加わっていないオリジナルコンディションが魅力です。針の夜光は同様に美しく焼けており、自然なヴィンテージ感を演出しています。弊社にて分解掃除済みです。

Ref.844は、レーシングクロノグラフで名を馳せたホイヤー社が、ロレックスやオメガが独占するダイバーズ市場に挑戦すべく発表した初のダイバーズウォッチです。クォーツショックにより財政難に陥っていた1970年代中盤、手頃な価格で高性能なダイバーズを求める市場の声を背景に開発されたこのモデルは、ホイヤーの再起をかけた挑戦でもありました。結果としてRef.844は大きな成功を収め、のちにMONNIN社への外注を終え、スイス国内の自社生産体制へと移行します。ホイヤー社をクォーツショックから救った記念碑的モデル。その初期仕様を、瑞々しいコンディションでご堪能いただけます。

タグホイヤーの前身であるホイヤー社は、エドワード・ホイヤーによって1860年に設立された150年以上の歴史を持つスイス創業の老舗。 1985年からタグホイヤーとなり、世界のトップクラスの競技の場で公式時計として採用されるなど、誰もが知る名門ブランド。

COMMENT

This model features a case outsourced to the French manufacturer MONNIN, distinguished by its unique rounded crown guards. While it shares many characteristics with the Rolex Submariner—such as its depth rating and unidirectional rotating bezel—it offers a more commanding presence with its larger 42mm diameter compared to the Submariner’s 39.5mm. The watch is equipped with a cobra-style hour hand, and details like the "professional" script and "MADE IN FRANCE" inscription are specific to the earliest examples. Unusually for a diver’s watch of this era, it features a mineral crystal rather than acrylic, reflecting a forward-thinking approach to design. Powering the watch is the Cupillard Cal. 4611A, a French-made manual wind movement.

The case retains its fluid contours with no signs of excessive wear. Despite being a component that commonly shows damage, the bezel remains in excellent condition—contributing to the high overall preservation of the watch. The dial is clean and shows no signs of deterioration, while the luminous material on the hour markers has aged evenly, confirming the untouched and original nature of the piece. The lume on the hands has also developed a beautiful, warm patina, enhancing the authentic vintage character. Fully serviced by our workshop.

Ref. 844 marked Heuer’s first entry into the diver’s watch segment—long dominated by Rolex and Omega. Launched in the mid-1970s amidst the Quartz Crisis, the watch was developed in response to demand for an affordable, high-performance mechanical diver. It was a bold move for a company known primarily for its racing chronographs. The success of the 844 proved pivotal: it not only revitalized Heuer’s commercial standing but also laid the foundation for the company’s transition from French outsourced production to in-house manufacturing in Switzerland. This example represents a historically significant reference in pristine early configuration—a milestone model that played a key role in Heuer’s survival and evolution.
