COMMENT

グランドセイコー・スペシャルのデイトモデルである6155に対し、デイデイトモデルの6156シリーズです。スペシャル表記はより厳格な検定基準をクリアした機種にのみ付くもので、実質6145の上位機種にあたります。Ref.6156–8000はケースがステンレススチール製で、鏡面とヘアラインの仕上げが切り替えられた秀逸な意匠です。ダイアルはシルバーのサンレイ。バーインデックス×バーハンドのシンプルな組み合わせです。針やインデックスは多面カット施し、しっかりとした読時を可能にしています。カレンダー表記は日本語/英語です。

6145との違いは、「SPECIAL」表記の付与。GSマークが金色になり、針やレターが細く、上品に仕上げています。高度経済成長期を迎え、購買層が国産時計に求めたステータス性を感じる逸品です。

諏訪精工舎と第二精工舎（亀戸）はそれぞれの製品開発を通して、お互いを高めあっていました。その中で生まれた自動巻き61GSは諏訪精工舎、手巻きの45GSは第二精工舎において開発されました。手巻きで競われる天文台クロノメターコンクールに出場した45GSは好成績を収め、天文台クロノメーターモデルとして市販するまでに至りました。この偉業はコンクール自体を中止に追い込む歴史的な大事件に発展します。

COMMENT

The 6156 series is the day-date model compared to the date-only Grand Seiko Special 6155. The "Special" designation is only given to models that pass stricter testing standards, making it a higher-end model compared to the 6145. The Ref. 6156-8000 features a stainless steel case with an exquisite design that alternates between mirror and brushed finishes. The dial is silver sunray with a simple combination of bar indices and bar hands. The hands and indices have multi-faceted cuts, ensuring clear readability. The calendar displays both Japanese and English.

The difference from the 6145 lies in the addition of the "SPECIAL" marking. The GS mark is in gold, and the hands and letters are slender and elegantly finished. This piece reflects the status that the domestic watch-buying public sought during Japan’s period of rapid economic growth.

Suwa Seikosha and Daini Seikosha (Kameido) elevated each other through their respective product developments. The automatic 61GS was developed by Suwa Seikosha, while the manual 45GS was developed by Daini Seikosha. The 45GS competed successfully in the Observatory Chronometer Competitions and was eventually sold as an Observatory Chronometer model. This achievement was so significant that it led to the discontinuation of the competitions.
