サントス・オクタゴンは、カルティエが1980年代に展開したサントスのバリエーションのひとつで、ラウンドでもスクエアでもない独自の八角形ケースが特徴です。Ref.2966はLMサイズの自動巻き仕様で、実用的なサイズ感を備えつつ、スポーティさとドレッシーな雰囲気を兼ね備えています。ステンレススチールとイエローゴールドを組み合わせたコンビ仕様は、時代を超えて映える存在感を放ち、ホワイトダイヤルにローマンインデックスを配した端正な意匠が、青焼きのソードハンドやカボション付きリューズとともにカルティエらしいアイコニックな要素を形づくっています。

ダイヤル表面にはごくわずかなクラックが見られるものの、肉眼で目立つほどではなく、全体の美観を大きく損ねるものではありません。ケースやブレスレットには細かな使用感があるものの、シャープなエッジや仕上げの質感はしっかりと保たれています。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

サントスは、1904年にルイ・カルティエがパイロットのサントス＝デュモンのためにデザインして以来、カルティエを代表するコレクションとして進化を続けています。中でもオクタゴンは、クラシックなサントスの文脈に幾何学的な解釈を加えた1980年代らしいデザインで、現在では生産されていないためコレクション性が高まっています。Ref.2966は、カルティエの伝統とモダンな感性が融合した稀少な一本といえるでしょう。

1900年代、飛行士サントス・デュモンが飛行中に時刻を確認できるようカルティエにオーダーしたのが「サントス」の始まり。そのサントスのなかでも八角形型モデル「サントスオクタゴン」は、平面上にカットが入ったブレスが、腕を動かす度にキラキラと煌めきます。シンプルながらもエレガントな印象を与えるモデルです。

COMMENT

The Santos Octagon is one of the variations Cartier introduced in the 1980s, distinguished by its unique octagonal case—neither round nor square. The Ref.2966 is an LM-sized automatic version, striking a balance between practicality, sportiness, and refined elegance. Executed in a two-tone combination of stainless steel and yellow gold, it exudes timeless appeal. The white dial, adorned with Roman numerals, is enhanced by blued sword hands and a cabochon-set crown, all of which embody Cartier’s unmistakable design codes.

A faint hairline crack is present on the dial surface, though it is not easily noticeable to the naked eye and does not detract from the overall beauty. The case and bracelet display light signs of wear, yet the sharpness of the edges and the quality of finishing remain intact. The watch has been fully disassembled and serviced by our workshop.

Since Louis Cartier created the first Santos in 1904 for aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, the collection has remained a cornerstone of Cartier’s watchmaking heritage. The Octagon variation reflects the geometric experimentation of the 1980s, offering a distinctive reinterpretation of the classic Santos. No longer in production, the Ref.2966 is increasingly sought after for its rarity, embodying a harmonious blend of Cartier tradition and modern sensibility.
