1968年から製造され始めた5thモデル、Ref.145.022です。50年間作られたスピードマスターだからこそ、マイナーチェンジを繰り返した経緯があり、細かなディティールの変化を見つける楽しみがあります。こちらはステップダイアルを廃止した初期のダイアルで、エッジが効いています。ケースバックにメダリオンを有しており、ロゴのrが下がっている通称「下がりr」が特徴です。この年式のムーンウォッチは生産数が少なく希少な１本です。アーカイブが付属します。

キャリバーはレマニア社製のCal,321をベースとしたCal.861を搭載しています。NASAの規定にはじめて合格したことでも有名なCal,321は非常に完成度の高い機械としてその名を残しています。そのためCal.861も含め、OMEGAが長年使用してきたブランドを代表する機械が搭載されている点も忘れてはいけないポイントです。

今でこそ「Speedmasterイコール宇宙」という図式がすぐに浮かび上がりますが、初期の世代は宇宙とは全く関係のない、純粋なモータースポーツ用の時計として誕生。また、スピードマスターは、ダイヤルではなく外周ベゼルにタキメーターを表示した世界で初めての時計と言われています。1959年、スピードマスターはマイナーチェンジをします。ベゼルがアルミニウムの黒色ベースとなり、針の形状がアロー針からアルファ針に変更されたことで、より視認性が高まっています。NASAは宇宙での過酷な環境にも耐えうる丈夫なクロノグラフを探しており、名だたる強豪に勝ったスピードマスターを公式時計として採用。その後1969年人類初の月面着陸の際、スピードマスターを着用していたことは有名なお話。

This is the 5th model, Ref.145.022, which began production in 1968. Because it has been produced for 50 years, the Speedmaster has undergone numerous minor changes over time, providing the joy of discovering subtle details. This particular piece features an early dial without the stepped design, giving it a sharp edge. It has the medallion on the case back, a characteristic known as the "stepped R" where the logo's "r" is dropped. Moonwatches from this year are rare due to their limited production numbers. Archives are included.

The case has a splendid proportion with no significant damages. The dial is in perfect condition without any signs of deterioration. The luminous material has aged beautifully and uniformly, without any chipping. The text and engravings on the case back are also well-preserved. While nowadays the equation "Speedmaster equals Space" immediately comes to mind, the early generations were born purely as motor sports watches with no relation to space at all. Additionally, the Speedmaster is said to be the first watch in the world to display a tachymeter on the external bezel instead of the dial. In 1959, the Speedmaster underwent a minor change, with the bezel transitioning to a black aluminium base and the needle shape changing from arrow to alpha, increasing visibility. NASA was seeking a robust chronograph that could withstand the harsh environment of space, and the Speedmaster, which defeated many strong competitors, was officially adopted as the space watch. It's a well-known story that the Speedmaster was worn during the first manned moon landing in 1969.
