COMMENT
The “61GS” marked the debut of Grand Seiko’s first 10-beat automatic movement. The rotor is engraved with “GRAND SEIKO,” a detail that reflects the exceptional level of craftsmanship characteristic of the era. The case blends soft, rounded contours with sharply defined facets along the upper surface and at the tips of the lugs, creating a tension-filled design that is unmistakably Grand Seiko. The silver sunburst dial displays fine radial brushing, while the black lines applied to the hands and index tops enhance legibility.
The case retains crisp hairline finishing and well-defined edges on the upper surfaces, maintaining an overall excellent impression. Although minor signs of use are present, the original finishing remains intact. The engravings on the caseback are sharp, and the medallion is also in fine condition. The dial shows virtually no aging and preserves a uniform, attractive sheen. The hands remain free of tarnish or scratches, and the black printing on the indexes is intact. Fully serviced by our watchmaker.
Powered by the Cal.6146A—an expression of the best technology Seiko had achieved at the time—the 61GS is widely regarded as the culmination of the automatic Grand Seiko line. It delivers high accuracy with its 10-beat movement while maintaining excellent wearability and reliability. This model represents the mature beauty that mechanical Grand Seiko had perfected, making it a truly rewarding piece to own and enjoy.
