COMMENT

ケースは多面カットが施されたステンレススチール製で、鏡面とヘアラインを切り替えた仕上げが美しい陰影を生み出しています。シルバーのサンレイダイヤルに、バーインデックスとドーフィンハンドを組み合わせたクラシカルな意匠。針やインデックスの中央にブラックを配し、夜光を用いずに視認性を確保しています。

搭載ムーブメント4522Aは、VFAや天文台クロノメーターのベースとなった最高峰のキャリバーです。1969年12月、クオーツ時計の登場により時計業界が大きな転換期を迎える中、第二精工舎が技術の粋を結集して製造した一本であり、まさに「最後にして最高峰」の結晶と呼べる存在です。

ダイヤルはエイジングの跡がなく、シルバーの透明感を湛えたグッドコンディション。針にわずかな小傷が見られますが目立たず、全体として美しい印象を維持しています。インデックスのブラックプリントは欠けがなく、ロゴは鮮明な鏡面状態です。ケースは軽微な打痕があるものの、フォルム全体は整っておりクリアな印象を保っています。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

1969年に第二精工舎で製造された手巻き式グランドセイコー、通称45GS。諏訪精工舎が開発した自動巻き61GSと並び、セイコーを代表する2つの系譜を築きました。手巻きモデルとして天文台クロノメーターコンクールに挑み、優れた成績を収めた45GSは、その実力により天文台クロノメーターモデルとして市販化されました。この偉業はついにはコンクール自体を中止へと追い込むほどの歴史的事件に発展し、国産時計の精度水準を世界に示したモデルとして高く評価されています。

COMMENT

The stainless-steel case is distinguished by multifaceted cuts, alternating polished and brushed finishes that create refined contrasts of light and shadow. A silver sunburst dial with bar indexes and dauphine hands presents a classic design. Black detailing through the centers of the hands and indexes ensures clarity without the use of luminous material.

Inside is the 4522A movement, considered one of Seiko’s finest calibers and the foundation for both the VFA and Observatory Chronometer models. Produced in December 1969, at the very moment when quartz technology was reshaping the watch industry, this piece represents the pinnacle of mechanical achievement by Daini Seikosha—rightly described as “the last and the greatest.”

The dial remains free from signs of aging, retaining its silver clarity in excellent condition. The hands show only minor marks that are barely visible, while the overall impression is clean and elegant. The indexes preserve their black printing without loss, and the applied logo shines with crisp, mirror-like clarity. The case shows only light marks, with the form and proportions intact. Serviced and disassembled by our watchmaker.

Produced by Daini Seikosha in 1969, the hand-wound Grand Seiko Ref. 45GS stands alongside Suwa Seikosha’s automatic 61GS as one of the two great lineages of the brand. The 45GS competed in observatory chronometer trials with outstanding results, leading to its release as a certified Observatory Chronometer. Its achievements were so remarkable that they ultimately contributed to the discontinuation of the competitions themselves, marking a historic milestone that demonstrated Japanese precision on the global stage.
