カラトラバケースを採用したオールドインターの一品です。ケース径30.5mmは当時のメンズサイズとして標準的なものであり、質実剛健なIWCの気質をそのままに、1940年代らしいクラシカルな雰囲気を漂わせています。ホワイトダイヤルにはブラックプリントのレターと特徴的なフォントのアラビア数字インデックスを配置。6時位置のスモールセコンドは一段落ち、精緻なレコード状の溝が刻まれています。夜光なしモデルで、シンプルながらも丁寧な造り込みにIWCらしいモノづくりへの精神が宿るデザインです。

ケースは当時のプロポーションをしっかりと保っており、ラグのエッジやベゼルの立ち上がりは健在です。小傷は見られるものの全体的に迫力があり、オリジナル性の高さを感じさせます。ダイヤルは全体に軽やかなエイジングが生じていますが、均一で落ち着いた風合いとなっており、年式を考慮すれば良好な保存状態といえます。ブラックプリントのレターやインデックスは劣化なく残存。ブルースチール針は深い青色を残しており、美しい存在感を維持しています。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

IWCが手掛けたカラトラバケースは、パテック・フィリップのカラトラバよりも前の1920年代から製作されていたとも言われ、その歴史的意義は大きなものがあります。搭載するCal.83は、イギリス陸軍の「ダーティダース（Mark X）」にも採用された堅牢かつ信頼性の高いムーブメントであり、タフな構造と高精度を誇る名機です。クラシカルな外観と軍用時計に通じる実用性を兼ね備えた本モデルは、オールドインターの魅力を凝縮した逸品といえるでしょう。

BRAND

アメリカマサチューセッツ州ボストン出身の時計師、フロレンタイン・アリオスト・ジョーンズが1868年に創立したのが始まり。特徴的なデザインで今なお世界中で人気を誇る「パイロット・ウォッチ」コレクションなど、多くの人気シリーズを発売。磁気から時計を守る為の軟鉄製インナーケースや、IWC独自の"ぺラトン式"と呼ばれる両回転式自動巻機構はあまりに有名。

COMMENT

This vintage IWC features a Calatrava-style case, a hallmark of the brand’s refined mid-century design. Measuring 30.5mm, it represented the standard men’s size of its era, combining the solid, no-nonsense character of IWC with the classical elegance of the 1940s. The white dial is set with black printed lettering and distinctive Arabic numerals, while the recessed small seconds at six o’clock displays fine concentric grooves. Without luminous material, the watch emphasizes a pure and carefully executed design, reflecting IWC’s commitment to meticulous craftsmanship.

The case retains its original proportions, with strong lugs and a well-defined bezel profile. While light surface marks are visible, the watch preserves a strong presence and a clear sense of originality. The dial has developed an even, gentle patina, giving it a calm vintage character, yet remains well-preserved for its age. The black printing of the indexes and text is intact, while the blued steel hands retain their deep hue, offering striking visual appeal. Serviced and disassembled by our watchmaker.

IWC’s work with Calatrava-style cases dates back as early as the 1920s—preceding even Patek Philippe’s famous design—underscoring the model’s historical significance. It is powered by the Cal. 83, a robust and highly reliable movement also used in the British Army’s “Dirty Dozen” Mark X. IWC was founded in 1868 by Florentine Ariosto Jones, a watchmaker from Boston, Massachusetts.
