機械式時計最盛期、1964製のデイデイトです。金無垢とプラチナのみで展開されているデイデイトは、フルスペルで曜日が表示される初のモデルでした。18金無垢のオイスターケースはフルーテッドベゼルの輝きが美しく重厚感があります。ホワイトゴールドのものは扱いやすく、特に人気が高いです。ダイヤルはサンレイで、シンプルな仕上げなだけに素材の良さが堪能できます。針はこの年式のみ採用された、専用の物です。竜頭は当時のホワイトゴールド製で評価が高いです。

搭載ムーブメントはデイデイト専用Cal.1555。テンワの慣性モーメントを調整することで、時計の進み遅れを調整する「フリースプラング」を採用。ひげぜんまいへの余計な負荷が少なく、長期的に精度安定、等時性安定を実現できます。

ケースは使用傷が少なく、肉厚でプロポーションに優れます。2時のラグ裏のホールマークと18Kの刻印がしっかりと視認できるのがポイントです。当時の純正品なので、致し方ないものではありますが、ホワイトゴールドの竜頭はねじ込みが若干浅いです。ダイヤルは美しいコンディションです。厳正に判断しますと、高倍率のルーペで覗いた時のみ、細かな粒状の経年変化が確認できます。肉眼ではまず気にならないものですのでご安心ください。針とインデックスは上面の鏡面仕上げが美しく輝きます。ルミナスは若干の欠けこそ出てはいるものの、良いベージュカラーを見せています。弊社にて分解掃除済みで、パワーリザーブ48時間以上を確認しています。

デイデイトは1956年の発表当時、日付と曜日を表示する世界初の防水性能を備えたクロノメーター自動巻時計でした。ROLEXから35代目アメリカ大統領のアイゼンハワー氏に贈呈されたことを始め、現在でも最高のステータスウォッチとしての地位を確立しています。

COMMENT

This is a 1964 Day-Date model from the heyday of mechanical watches. The Day-Date, available only in solid gold and platinum, was the first model to display the day of the week in full. The 18-carat solid gold Oyster case features a beautiful fluted bezel, exuding a sense of elegance and weightiness. The white gold version is particularly popular for its ease of wear. With its sunray dial, the simplicity of the finish allows the quality of the material to shine through. The hands are a special design unique to this year, and the crown, made of white gold at the time, is highly regarded.

It houses the Day-Date exclusive Caliber 1555 movement. By adjusting the inertia moment of the balance wheel, it adopts the "free-sprung" balance to regulate the watch's accuracy and timing. This minimizes additional stress on the hairspring, ensuring long-term precision stability and isochronism.

The case exhibits minimal signs of wear, is thick, and boasts excellent proportions. The hallmark and 18K stamp on the back of the lug at 2 o'clock are clearly visible. Although the white gold crown may have slightly shallow threading due to its originality, the dial is in beautiful condition. Under strict examination, slight granular aging can be observed only when viewed through a high-magnification loupe, but it is not noticeable to the naked eye, so please rest assured. The hands and indexes gleam beautifully with their top surface mirror finish. While there are minor flaws in the luminous material, it displays a pleasing beige color. It has been disassembled and cleaned by our company, confirming a power reserve of over 48 hours.

When the Day-Date was introduced in 1956, it was the world's first waterproof chronometer automatic watch to display both the date and the day of the week. From being presented to the 35th President of the United States, Eisenhower, by ROLEX, to its current status as the ultimate status watch, the Day-Date has established itself as an icon.
