ホワイトダイヤルにローマンインデックスを配し、外周にはポインターデイト表示を備えたトリプルカレンダー仕様。12時位置に月・曜日、6時位置にムーンフェイズ、9時位置に24時間計、そしてセンタークロノグラフ針を組み合わせた多機能なレイアウトが端正にまとめられています。ステンレススティールケースに18Kイエローゴールドのタキメーターベゼルを組み合わせたコンビネーションは、スポーティさと華やかさを同時に感じさせる構成です。

ダイヤルはクリーンな状態を保ち、視認性を損なうダメージは見受けられません。針・インデックスのコンディションも良好です。ケースには使用に伴う細かなスレが見られるものの、エッジの輪郭は保たれています。18Kベゼルは経年による風合いを残しつつ、過度な摩耗は感じられません。ギャランティカードが付属する個体で、1990年8月の販売記載が確認できます。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

今でこそ「Speedmasterイコール宇宙」という図式がすぐに浮かび上がりますが、当時は宇宙とは全く関係のない、純粋なモータースポーツ用の時計として誕生。また、スピードマスターは、ダイヤルではなく外周ベゼルにタキメーターを表示した世界で初めての時計と言われています。1959年、スピードマスターはマイナーチェンジをします。ベゼルがアルミニウムの黒色ベースとなり、針の形状がアロー針からアルファ針に変更されたことで、より視認性が高まっています。NASAは宇宙での過酷な環境にも耐えうる丈夫なクロノグラフを探しており、名だたる強豪に勝ったスピードマスターを公式時計として採用。その後1969年人類初の月面着陸の際、スピードマスターを着用していたことは有名な話。

The white dial is laid out with Roman numerals and an outer pointer-date scale, forming a triple calendar configuration. Month and day apertures at 12 o’clock, a moonphase display at 6, a 24-hour indicator at 9, and a central chronograph seconds hand are arranged in a composed, well-balanced design. The stainless steel case paired with an 18K yellow gold tachymeter bezel creates a combination that conveys both sporting character and refined presence.

The dial remains clean, with no damage that would impair legibility. The hands and indexes are in good condition. Minor surface marks from use are visible on the case, while the edges retain their definition. The 18K bezel displays gentle signs of age without excessive wear. Today, the equation “Speedmaster equals space” comes immediately to mind. At its birth, however, the model had no connection to space exploration and was conceived purely as a chronograph for motorsports. It is also regarded as the first watch in the world to feature a tachymeter scale placed on the outer bezel rather than printed on the dial.

In 1959, the Speedmaster underwent a minor update: the bezel was changed to a black aluminum insert, and the hands evolved from broad arrow to alpha style, enhancing legibility. As NASA sought a chronograph capable of withstanding the severe conditions of space, the Speedmaster prevailed over formidable competitors and was adopted as the official watch. Its presence on the wrists of astronauts during the first lunar landing in 1969 remains one of the most celebrated episodes in horological history.
