COMMENT

「OYSTER」の響きにはロレックスを思い浮かべるのが一般的でしょうか。このオイスターはROLEXのディフュージョンブランドとして展開されたもので、当時R.W.C.(Rolex Watch Company)というグループ会社のひとつとして、「OYSTER」名義で販売していた品です。裏蓋の外側にも、よく見るとR.W.C.の刻印が打たれています。

ケースはぽってりとしたミッドサイズケースに飛び出した小ぶりのねじ込みリューズが愛らしいです。長く伸びたラグが個性的。ダイヤルはシルバーの縦ヘアライン。外周から、通常よりも大きなミニッツトラック、アプライドのバーインデックス、そして網目状の立体仕上げが重なったセクターダイヤルです。ミニッツトラックをアプライドで製作するなど文字盤製作に拘りをを見せていた、1940年代のRWCらしい独自の意匠です。スモールセコンドに12.3.9の配置が素晴らしいデザインです。バトンハンドはブルースチール針でノンルミナスモデルとなります。

ケースはダメージの少ない素晴らしいプロポーションです。ヘアラインと鏡面の切り替えも素晴らしく、オイスターケースの原型を知ることができます。ダイヤルは年式通りのエイジングを表しています。程よく焼けたダイヤルはヴィンテージらしいこなれた扱いやすい雰囲気です。針はブルースチールの色味をよく残しており高評価です。弊社にて分解掃除済みです。

オイスターケース、オイスタークラウンは実質ロレックス。ダイヤルは勝るとも劣らない立体造形の手の込んだもので、当時の最も優れた製造技術と造形です。気の利いたフェイスデザインが魅力の一品で、腕元に乗せた際の迫力は鮮烈です。1940年代のオイスターを思う存分にご堪能ください。

The name “Oyster” naturally brings Rolex to mind. This example was produced under the “Oyster” designation by R.W.C. (Rolex Watch Company), a group company operating as a diffusion arm of Rolex at the time. A close look at the exterior of the caseback reveals the R.W.C. stamp, attesting to its origin.

The case features a rounded mid-size profile with a charmingly small screw-down crown that projects slightly from the flank. Elongated lugs lend a distinctive silhouette. The dial is finished in silver vertical brushing. From the outer edge inward, an oversized minute track, applied bar indexes, and a textured guilloché-like center overlap to form a richly layered sector dial. The applied minute track in particular reflects the attention to dial craftsmanship characteristic of R.W.C. in the 1940s. The small seconds layout paired with 12-3-9 numerals achieves an exceptional balance. Blued steel baton hands complete the composition in a non-luminous configuration.

The case retains excellent proportions with minimal damage. The interplay between brushed and polished surfaces allows one to appreciate the early form of the Oyster case. The dial shows aging consistent with its era, developing a warm patina that enhances its vintage character without compromising usability. The Oyster case and Oyster crown are, in essence, Rolex in construction. The dial, however, stands on its own with an equally sophisticated three-dimensional execution, reflecting some of the finest manufacturing techniques of the 1940s.
