COMMENT
Commonly known as the “62GS,” this model is celebrated as the first automatic Grand Seiko. Its case features an elegant, flowing profile, distinguished by an asymmetrical design with the crown positioned at 4 o’clock. This layout reflects the reduced need for manual winding brought about by the automatic mechanism, making it a design that skillfully unites function and form. The dial is finished in silver sunray, with a slightly recessed outer ring that adds dimensionality. Baton indexes feature polished upper surfaces and faceted outer edges, reflecting light from multiple angles for a refined appearance. Classic dauphine hands complement the overall design. The day–date display indicates Saturday in blue and Sunday in red.
While the case shows minor surface marks throughout, the facets along the sides and lugs remain crisp, preserving the original lines and proportions. Areas prone to wear—such as the lugs and caseback—are maintained in excellent condition. The dial exhibits virtually no aging, with no spotting or discoloration. The hands show only minimal marks under magnification while retaining their polished brilliance, and the multi-faceted indexes are clean and sharply defined. Fully serviced by our watchmaker.
With its blend of practicality—thanks to the day–date mechanism—and sculptural beauty, the 62GS stands as one of Grand Seiko’s most iconic creations. Suitable for everyday wear yet highly collectible, it offers a rare opportunity to experience, in near-original form, a milestone from 1966—the year Grand Seiko’s automatic legend began.
