Its base movement, the Frédéric Piguet Cal. 71, uses an open-barrel construction in which the upper cover of the barrel is omitted, leaving the mainspring exposed. A similar construction can be found in certain manually wound, two-hand Patek Philippe movements, though its use in an automatic caliber is extremely uncommon.
