COMMENT

1942年に製造が開始された世界初の計算尺を備えたクロノグラフ、クロノマット。丸プッシュの2ndモデルREF.808、ブラックダイアルです。ホワイトダイアルでは、それほど赤色が目に行かないのですが、ブラックダイアルになる事で、レッドの差し色が際立つスポーティーな印象です。Bのロゴも含めてインデックスがアップライトの仕様です。レターはシルバーのプリントです。

文字盤のコンディションが素晴らしいです。元々防水性能は気にされていないモデルですので、入水により劣化した個体が多いのですが、こちらは回転ベゼルに至るまで、焼けておらず、大変美しいです。インデックスや針のくすみが微々たるもので、手に取って見て気になるものではございません。ブラックマットの質感が写真では伝わりにくいですが、経年によるボソボソした感じが一切ない状態です。2枚目3枚目の斜めからの写真が実物の雰囲気です。ケースはノンポリッシュでミントなコンディションです。3面ラグのエッジがきれいに残っています。操作の為に触れるためにダメージの出易い竜頭やプッシュボタンですが、使用感が見られません。
計算尺は、掛け算、割り算を、瞬時に行う仕組みです。内側と外側で互いに接する数字の積が赤い「H」の外側に解として示されます。よく使う円周率(π)も使い易いよう表記されています。

ナビタイマーの大ぶりな雰囲気とはまた一線を画した、60年代ならではの小ぶりなクロノが腕なじみの良い時計です。取り扱いの少ない中でも状態の良い品と感じておりますので、琴線に触れる方にはぜひご覧頂きたいお品です。

内部に搭載された、ビーナス175はピラーホイールにキャリングアームと古典の基礎となるムーブメント。こちらは次世代のスムース天輪に平ヒゲの構造です。クロノグラフ作動の負荷が増減する中でも正しく動くよう、精度良く調整されています。

航空時計とは言え、軍に官給された事はなく、主にアメリカの民間パイロットが使用していた。当時は庶民には手の届かない高級品であったことでしょう。“クロノグラフのスペシャリスト”として確固たる地位を築いた＜BREITLING＞は、今なお世界中で愛されている名門ブランドとして発展し続けています。

The Chronomat, the world's first chronograph equipped with a slide rule, was introduced in 1942. This particular model is the second version with round pushers, designated REF.808, featuring a black dial. While the red accents are not as prominent on a white dial, they stand out distinctly against the black dial, giving it a sporty impression, including the upright indexes featuring the B logo. The lettering is printed in silver.

The condition of the dial is superb. Since this model was not originally designed for waterproofing, many specimens have degraded due to water exposure. However, this piece remains pristine, with no discoloration evident even up to the rotating bezel, making it exceptionally beautiful. Any slight tarnishing on the indexes or hands is negligible and does not detract from its appearance. The black matte texture might not be evident in the photos, but it exhibits no signs of aging, maintaining a smooth finish throughout. The second and third angled photos depict the true ambiance of the watch. The case is in mint condition, with untouched edges on the three-sided lugs. Despite being susceptible to damage from handling, the crown and push buttons show no signs of wear.
The slide rule mechanism allows for instant multiplication and division. The product of numbers adjacent on the inner and outer scales is indicated as a result outside the red "H." Commonly used constants such as the circumference ratio (π) are conveniently marked for easy reference.

Distinct from the bold presence of the Navitimer, this chronograph from the 1960s offers a familiar and comfortable fit. Despite its rarity in the market, this well-maintained piece is sure to captivate enthusiasts.

Internally, the Venus 175 movement, featuring a pillar wheel and a carrying arm, serves as the foundation of classical movements. It adopts a smooth balance with a flat hairspring structure for the next generation. Precisely adjusted to ensure accurate operation amidst fluctuations in the chronograph's workload.
