COMMENT

1968年から製造され始めた5thモデル、Ref.145.022です。50年間作られたスピードマスターだからこそ、マイナーチェンジを繰り返した経緯があり、細かなディテールの変化を見つける楽しみがあります。こちらはケースバックにメダリオンを有しています。同年の後期にはレターのSpeedmaserにあるSとrの表記が短いものに代わりますが、入れ替わる直前、最後の「下がりr」の個体となります。

ケースは小さな打跡こそ見られますが、目立ったものではなく、当時のプロポーションを損なっていません。擦れの表れやすいベゼルは状態良く、黒々しく残っています。ダイアルにつきまして、当時の完全な状態を保っています。目立った傷や汚れは一切見られません。プリントやルミナスに経年変化は見られません。入水の形跡がなく、大切に保管されてきたことがわかります。ルミナスの色味が程よく灼け、良いポイントカラーとなっています。ビデオにてご確認ください。

今でこそ「Speedmasterイコール宇宙」という図式がすぐに浮かび上がりますが、当時は宇宙とは全く関係のない、純粋なモータースポーツ用の時計として誕生。また、スピードマスターは、ダイヤルではなく外周ベゼルにタキメーターを表示した世界で初めての時計と言われています。1959年、スピードマスターはマイナーチェンジをします。ベゼルがアルミニウムの黒色ベースとなり、針の形状がアロー針からアルファ針に変更されたことで、より視認性が高まっています。NASAは宇宙での過酷な環境にも耐えうる丈夫なクロノグラフを探しており、名だたる強豪に勝ったスピードマスターを公式時計として採用。その後1969年人類初の月面着陸の際、スピードマスターを着用していたことは有名なお話。

This is the Speedmaster Ref.145.022 Transitional Model, which began production in 1968. Given its 50-year production history, it underwent several minor changes, offering enthusiasts the joy of discovering subtle detail variations. This particular model features a medallion on the case back. It represents the last of its kind just before transitioning to the shortened "r" in the Speedmaster lettering.

While the case does exhibit some minor scratches, they are not prominent and do not detract from the original proportions of the watch. The bezel, prone to wear, remains in good condition, retaining its deep black hue. The dial is pristine, showing no significant scratches or blemishes, and there are no signs of aging on the printing or luminescent material. It appears to have been carefully preserved without any water damage. The luminescent color has aged gracefully, adding to its appeal. Please refer to the video for a closer look.

In 1969, NASA achieved the first manned moon landing, marking the Speedmaster Professional as one of the most important models in watchmaking history. While the association of "Speedmaster equals space" is immediate today, it's essential to remember its origins as a purely motorsport watch with no ties to space. Moreover, the Speedmaster is credited as the first watch to feature a tachymeter on the outer bezel instead of the dial, a groundbreaking innovation. The 1959 minor change introduced an aluminum black base for the bezel and changed the needle shape from arrow to alpha, enhancing visibility. NASA's quest for a robust chronograph capable of withstanding the harsh conditions of space led to the selection of the Speedmaster over numerous competitors. The iconic moment of the Speedmaster being worn during the first manned moon landing in 1969 further solidified its status as the official watch for space exploration.
