1911年に一般販売された世界初の腕時計であるサントス。このサントスデュモン Ref.9605は当時のサントスを復刻したモデルです。ケースは厚さ4.2mmと非常に薄型です。上面がフラットなヘアライン仕上げ。鏡面のベゼルはねじ留めされています。ダイヤルはホワイト。ローマインデックスとブルースチールのバトン針を組み合わせています。搭載ムーブメントは当時世界最薄だったフレデリックピゲ社 Cal.21を採用しています。純正のストラップと18金無垢バックルを装備しています。

ほとんど使用の形跡が見られない、ミントコンディションです。ケースバックの刻印は擦れなく残っており、ヘアライン仕上げと鏡面ベゼルの切り替えがパリッとしています。ダイヤルは気になるようなダメージが一切見られません。プリントの剥がれや針の色抜けなく、完全な当時のままを保っています。弊社にて分解掃除済みのため、パワーリザーブ40時間を確認しています。

腕時計の始まりであるサントスは、ルイカルティエの親友であるアルベルトサントス デュモンが、当時流通していた懐中時計がパイロットにとっては非実用的であることを理由に、飛行機に搭乗した際に携帯できる腕時計を望んだことに始まりました。このサントスデュモンは、時代を超越したクラシックな作品です。

BRAND

ビス留めのケースは飛行機のパーツを繋ぐネジがモチーフで、機体をイメージしてダイヤルなどの角がまるみを帯びたデザイン。現在ではジュエラーとして名高いカルティエですが、まだ懐中時計が主流だった1904年に本格的な腕時計を製作したのはカルティエが最初。アルベルト・サントス・デュモンという飛行家からの「飛行中に手を離さずに見ることができる時計がほしい。」という依頼が誕生のきっかけで、「サントス」の名を冠した腕時計が1911年に一般発売されました。

The Santos, introduced in 1911 as the world's first mass-produced wristwatch, marks the beginning of wristwatch history. This Santos Dumont Ref.9605 is a model that faithfully recreates the original Santos from that era. Its case is exceptionally thin, measuring just 4.2mm in thickness, with a flat hairline finish on the top surface and a polished bezel secured with screws. The dial is white, adorned with Roman numerals and blue steel hands. It houses the Frederic Piguet Cal.21 movement, which was the thinnest in the world at the time. It comes equipped with a genuine strap and an 18-karat solid gold buckle.

In mint condition with hardly any signs of use, this watch retains clear case back engravings and a sharp contrast between the hairline finish and the mirror-polished bezel. The dial shows no noticeable damage, with no fading of prints or discoloration of hands, remaining in perfect original condition. Having undergone disassembly and cleaning by us, we have confirmed a power reserve of 40 hours.

The Santos, which began with a request from Albert Santos Dumont, a close friend of Louis Cartier, who found pocket watches impractical for pilots during flights, is a timeless classic. This Santos Dumont transcends eras as a truly timeless piece.

The screw-fastened case, reminiscent of airplane parts connecting screws, features a design with rounded corners resembling aircraft bodies, with the screws serving as a motif. While Cartier is renowned today as a jeweler, it was Cartier who pioneered the creation of authentic wristwatches in 1904, when pocket watches were still prevalent. The request from aviator Albert Santos Dumont, "I want a watch that I can easily check while flying without letting go of the controls," led to the creation of the watch named "Santos," which was released to the public in 1911.
