COMMENT

第二精工舎により1969年に製造された手巻きのグランドセイコー。通称45GSです。ケースは多面カットのキャップゴールド製。鏡面とヘアラインの仕上げが切り替えられた秀逸な意匠です。ダイアルはシルバーのサンレイ。バーインデックス×ドルフィンハンドの組み合わせはクラシカルです。針やインデックスはセンターにブラックを配しており、ゴールドのしっとりとした表情を崩さず、しっかりとした読時を可能にしています。搭載ムーブメント4522AはVFAや天文台クロノメーターのベースとなった最高峰のムーブメントです。69年の12月にクオーツ時計によって時計の世界が移ろう時代、第二精工舎が技術の集大成として製造した、最後にして最高峰の結晶と言えるでしょう。

ケースは適度に使用傷が見られますが、過度なダメージは見られません。打ち傷などなく、職人技の繊細な仕上げが良く感じ取れます。裏蓋のメダリオンに小傷は見られず、刻印が深く残っています。ダイアルはエイジングにより雰囲気のあるクリームカラーへと変化しています。ゴールドケースとの馴染みがよく、よりムーディな雰囲気へと仕上がっています。針、インデックスは共にくすみの無いコンディションです。当店にてオーバーホールを済ませていますので、ご購入後すぐお使いいただけます。

諏訪精工と第二精工舎(亀戸)はそれぞれの製品開発を通して、お互いを高めあっていました。その中で生まれた自動巻き61GSは諏訪精工舎、手巻きの45GSは第二精工舎において開発されました。手巻きで競われる天文台クロノメターコンクールに出場した45GSは好成績を収め、天文台クロノメーターモデルとして市販するまでに至りました。この偉業はコンクール自体を中止に追い込む歴史的な大事件に発展します。

This hand-wound Grand Seiko, manufactured by the Daini Seikosha in 1969, is commonly referred to as the 45GS. The case is crafted from cap gold with multifaceted cuts, exhibiting a superb design featuring alternating mirror finish and hairline textures. The dial is a silver sunray pattern, complemented by bar indices and dauphine hands for a classical touch. With black accents on the hands and indices, it maintains a sophisticated appearance while ensuring easy readability. The installed movement, the 4522A, represents the pinnacle of watchmaking, serving as the foundation for VFA and observatory chronometer models. Produced by the Daini Seikosha as a culmination of their technical expertise, it stands as the ultimate achievement, especially amid the era of transition brought about by the advent of quartz watches in December 1969.

While the case exhibits moderate signs of use, there are no significant damages observed. It showcases delicate craftsmanship with no noticeable scratches, and the medallion on the case back remains deeply engraved without any visible scratches. The dial has acquired an atmospheric cream color through aging, blending seamlessly with the gold case to create a moodier ambiance. Both the hands and indices are in impeccable condition without any signs of discoloration. Having undergone an overhaul at our store, it's ready for immediate use upon purchase.

This timepiece represents the crystallization of Seiko's dream to challenge the Swiss watch industry single-handedly. Additionally, it serves as an emblem of history, adding to the enjoyment of owning this iconic piece.

Through their respective product developments, Suwa Seikosha and Daini Seikosha (Kameido) mutually elevated each other. The automatic 61GS was developed by Suwa Seikosha, while the hand-wound 45GS was created by Daini Seikosha. Competing in the Observatory Chronometer Concours with their hand-wound entry, the 45GS achieved remarkable results, eventually leading to its commercial release as an observatory chronometer model. This feat would later evolve into a significant historical event, ultimately resulting in the cancellation of the competition itself.
