COMMENT

ケースフォルムがユニークなスピードマスターマークIII。フライトマスターなどにも使用された通称「ボルケーノ（火山）」と呼ばれるものです。ケースメーカーはスーパーコンプレッサーなど防水性に優れたケースを開発していたEPSA（Ervin Piquerez SA）製、裏蓋の内側にはダイビングベルをデフォルメした刻印が見られます。ダイヤルはブラックマット。9時位置のインダイヤルは永久秒針の下に24時間表記の時刻を示すディスクを搭載しています。クロノグラフ秒針はスピードマスターと同様の形状です。羽の生えた針はクロノグラフの1時間積算計です。6時位置のインダイヤルは12時間積算計です。ブレスレットはRef.1162とエンドリンク172です。

ケースは激しく使用され、小傷が多く散見されます。大ぶりなケースですので、より迫力を増しています。ダイヤルは当時の色味をよく残したミントコンディションです。傷や汚れなどの気になるようなダメージはありません。タキメーターがプリントされたインナーベゼルは濃いブラックカラーを残しています。針やレターのプリントに劣化は見られません。アプライドのインデックスはキラキラと上面を輝かせており、やれた印象を一切抱かない素晴らしいコンディションです。夜光塗料は素晴らしいベージュカラーを見せています。

厚み16.0mmの迫力溢れるケースデザインが際立っています。腕に装着した際の重厚な感触と、未来的なデザインはまさに1970年代のヴィンテージウォッチを楽しむ真髄と言えるでしょう。
ケースは激しい使用に耐え、ますます迫力を増しています。しかし、驚くべきことに、ダイヤルはミントな状態を保っています。これはまさに、スピードマスターがどれほど堅牢で信頼性が高いかを示しています。

BRAND

今でこそ「Speedmasterイコール宇宙」という図式がすぐに浮かび上がりますが、当時は宇宙とは全く関係のない、純粋なモータースポーツ用の時計として誕生。また、スピードマスターは、ダイヤルではなく外周ベゼルにタキメーターを表示した世界で初めての時計と言われています。1959年、スピードマスターはマイナーチェンジをします。ベゼルがアルミニウムの黒色ベースとなり、針の形状がアロー針からアルファ針に変更されたことで、より視認性が高まっています。NASAは宇宙での過酷な環境にも耐えうる丈夫なクロノグラフを探しており、名だたる強豪に勝ったスピードマスターを公式時計として採用。その後1969年人類初の月面着陸の際、スピードマスターを着用していたことは有名な話。

COMMENT

The distinctive Speedmaster Mark III, echoing the style of the late 1960s, features the unique "Volcano" case, also used in models like the Flightmaster. Manufactured by EPSA (Ervin Piquerez SA), known for producing cases with excellent waterproof capabilities such as the super-compressor, the inner side of the case back bears an engraving deformed from a diving bell. The black matte dial hosts a 24-hour disc beneath the permanent second hand at 9 o'clock. The chronograph second hand mirrors the familiar shape of the Speedmaster, and the winged hand functions as a 1-hour accumulator for the chronograph. The 6 o'clock sub-dial serves as a 12-hour accumulator. Equipped with a bracelet Ref.1162 and end link 172.

The case, having endured intense use, displays numerous small scratches, enhancing its bold presence due to its substantial size. The dial is in a mint condition, retaining the original color palette of the era, with no noticeable damages such as scratches or stains. The printed inner bezel with the tachymeter remains in a deep black shade. There is no discernible degradation in the hands or lettering prints. The applied indexes shimmer on the surface, presenting an impressive condition without any signs of wear. The luminous paint displays a fantastic beige hue.

The robust case design, with a thickness of 16.0mm, stands out prominently. The weighty feel and futuristic design when worn on the wrist truly capture the essence of enjoying vintage watches from the 1970s.

Despite enduring intense use, the case has gained even more formidable appeal. Remarkably, the dial maintains a mint condition, demonstrating the robustness and high reliability of the Speedmaster.

BRAND

While today the equation "Speedmaster equals space" quickly comes to mind, during its inception, it was born as a pure motorsports watch with no relation to space. Furthermore, the Speedmaster is recognized as the world's first watch to display a tachymeter on the outer bezel instead of the dial. In 1959, the Speedmaster underwent a minor change, featuring a black aluminum base for the bezel and a transition from arrow hands to alpha hands, enhancing visibility. NASA was in search of a durable chronograph capable of withstanding the harsh space environment, and the Speedmaster, triumphant against formidable competitors, was officially adopted as the space agency's timepiece. The famous story of wearing the Speedmaster during the first human moon landing in 1969 is well-known.
