COMMENT

1964年の東京オリンピックに合わせて販売された記念モデル、ワールドタイム1stモデルです。当時の聖火マークが裏蓋に刻印されています。都会的な爽やかさを備えたワールドタイムは、現行品では多々散見されますが、アンティークの中ではあまり見られない機構です。ダイヤルはファーストダイバーと同じようなメタリックグレーが採用されており、シルバーダイヤルよりも個体数が少ないです。

操作方法は、インナーベゼルを操作し現在地の地名を黒いGMT針(24時間で盤面上を一回転する針)の先に移動することで、世界各国の時刻がひと目で確認できます。インナーベゼルは時刻に連動して動きませんので、確認の都度合わせます。リューズ0段引きでインナーベゼル合わせを、1段引きで日付合わせを、2段引きで時刻合わせを行います。手巻き機構は無いので、自動巻きのみで使用します。この世代のセイコーは精度が安定していますので、手巻きが出来ずとも、思いの外正確に稼働します。

ケースはエッジが立った素晴らしいコンディションです。打ち傷がなく、オリジナルプロポーションを堪能できます。裏蓋は聖火マークが薄くなっています。同系統のスナップバックは咬み合わせが強力で、ちょっとした錆からヒビが発生している個体を多く見ます。裏蓋を良く確認していますが、そうしたヒビが無い良い状態です。ダイヤルは美しく、製造から50年経過したヴィンテージ品とは思えないほどのコンディションです自動巻きの巻き上げ性能と、インナーベゼルのファンクションが同様に快調です。

2か国を表示するGMT機能はスポーツデザイン極致の意匠になりますが、打って変わって、世界中の地名が明記されたワールドタイムは、世界地図のような広い世界観を憶えます。適度な経年が味わい深く、息が詰まった時にふと手元を見ると、小旅行を思い起こさせるそんなひと品です。

ワールドタイマーは1964年の東京オリンピックを記念して、国内初のワールドタイム機能を搭載して発売された時計。サードモデルは、力強い大きなラグが特徴で、スポーツモデルのようなフォルムは非常に人気の高い個体。文字盤に世界の都市名が書かれたインダイアルや、インデックスとGMT針が接触しないように、GMT針が階段状に折れ曲がっているのも特徴。

COMMENT

This is the first model of the World Timer, released to commemorate the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. The emblem of the Olympic torch from that era is engraved on the case back. While modern versions of the World Timer boasting urban sophistication are common, this mechanism is rarely seen among antiques. The dial adopts a metallic gray similar to the First Diver, with fewer specimens available compared to the silver dial.

The operation involves adjusting the inner bezel to align with the current location's name using the black GMT hand (a hand that rotates once around the dial in 24 hours), allowing you to easily check the time in various countries at a glance. Since the inner bezel does not move with time, it needs adjustment each time you check. You adjust the inner bezel with the crown pulled out to the 0th position, adjust the date with the crown pulled out to the 1st position, and adjust the time with the crown pulled out to the 2nd position. Since it lacks a manual winding mechanism, it operates only with automatic winding. Seiko of this generation maintains stable accuracy, so even without manual winding, it operates surprisingly accurately.

The case is in excellent condition with sharp edges, devoid of scratches, allowing you to enjoy its original proportions. The case back emblem of the Olympic torch has faded slightly. Snap backs of the same type often show strong bite, leading to cracks from minor rust. However, upon close inspection, there are no such cracks, indicating a good condition. The dial is beautiful, maintaining a condition that belies its 50 years of existence. Both the automatic winding performance and the function of the inner bezel are in excellent condition.

While the GMT function displaying two countries represents the epitome of sports design, the World Timer, with its array of cities from around the world, evokes a broad worldview akin to a world map. Its moderate aging adds depth, and when you glance at it in a moment of tension, it evokes memories of a short journey.

BRAND

The World Timer was the first watch in Japan to be equipped with a world time function, released to commemorate the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. The third model is characterized by its strong, large lugs, resembling a sports model, which is highly popular.
