COMMENT

39mm径のスーパージャンボケースを備えたオメガです。ムーブメントにはスモールセコンド仕様の30mmキャリバーを搭載しており、その円熟期ともいえるCal.283が採用されています。インカブロック耐震装置を備え、巻き上げヒゲやチラネジを採用したクラシックな構造が特徴です。ダイヤルは繊細な縦方向の仕上げが施されたシルバーで、ルミナスは使用されていません。エンボス仕上げのインデックスとドーフィンハンドはカッパーカラーで統一され、テール付きの赤い秒針が1950年代らしいデザインのアクセントとなっています。ストレートラグは一見シンプルながら、サイドビューでは葉のような緩やかな曲線を描き、洗練された印象を与えます。

ケースは使用感が少なく、大きな損傷は見当たりません。ベゼルやラグのエッジもしっかりと残っています。ダイヤルは年式を考慮すると素晴らしいコンディションを保っています。ルーペで細部を確認すると、外周の53分位置などにごく微細なダメージが見られますが、シミや変色はほとんどありません。針はメッキの剥げがなく、鏡面が美しく光を反射するパーフェクトな状態です。弊社にて分解掃除済みです。

シンプルな時計でありながら、これほど大きく薄いケースを持つモデルは、ヴィンテージから現行品に至るまで非常に珍しい存在です。腕をしっかりと覆うケースは、まるで懐中時計を腕に装着しているかのような独特の着け心地を味わえます。

腕時計が普及し始めた1910年代から手巻き、自動巻と変遷を経て、クオーツ時計の開発によって機械式時計が衰退します。それ以前の1960年代に機械式腕時計はひとつのピークに達します。当時は日本でも三種の神器の一つだったオメガの時計。持つ人のステータスとなる高級品で、各メーカーが精度や防水性、耐久性など切磋琢磨し開発した時代。コストをかけて、より良い時計造りのためにしのぎを削っていました。

COMMENT  

An Omega timepiece featuring an oversized 39mm "super jumbo" case. It is powered by a small-seconds version of the renowned 30mm caliber, specifically the Cal. 283, a movement that represents the peak of its development. This classic construction includes an Incabloc shock protection system, a Breguet overcoil, and screw balance. The silver dial has a delicate vertical finish and lacks luminous material. Embossed copper-colored indices and dauphine hands create a harmonious aesthetic, while the red-tipped seconds hand adds a distinctively 1950s touch. Though the straight lugs may appear simple at first glance, a side view reveals a refined, leaf-like curvature that enhances the watch’s elegance.  

The case exhibits minimal signs of wear, with no major damage. The edges of the bezel and lugs remain well-defined. Considering its age, the dial is in remarkable condition. Under magnification, faint micro-imperfections can be observed around the outer edge near the 53-minute mark, but there is virtually no staining or discoloration. The hands retain their plating with no signs of wear, reflecting light beautifully with their mirror-polished surfaces. The watch has been disassembled and serviced by our company.  

Despite its simplicity, a watch with such a large yet slim case remains a rarity across both vintage and modern timepieces. The case fully embraces the wrist, offering a unique wearing experience reminiscent of a pocket watch transformed into a wristwatch.

Since the 1910s, as wristwatches became more widespread, the industry evolved from hand-wound to automatic movements before the quartz revolution led to the decline of mechanical watches. Before this shift, the 1960s marked the golden era of mechanical timepieces. In Japan, Omega was considered one of the "three great treasures" of luxury, a symbol of prestige. It was an era when manufacturers competed fiercely to achieve superior accuracy, water resistance, and durability, investing heavily in craftsmanship to produce the finest watches.
