50年間作られたスペードマスターだからこそ、マイナーチェンジを繰り返した経緯があり、細かなディティールの変化を見つける楽しみがあります。それがロングセラーの理由のひとつ。スピードマスターの中では製造期間の長い方であった5thですが、ステップダイアルを備えているものと拘ると年式がぐっと狭まります。立体感のあるダイアルと、ツイストラグのコンビネーションはムーンウォッチでしか味わえない意匠です。ケースはユゲニン・フレアー（HF=Huguenin Freres）製。シリアルナンバーが284+++++、裏蓋の内側は-69と5th最初期の年式です。ハンサムな1171ブレスが付属するのも嬉しいポイント。

ケースは最低限の小傷で、オリジナルプロポーションが残っており大変高評価です。ツイストラグの複雑なエッジが立っております。ベゼルは僅かにフェードし、グレーカラーがヴィンテージしい雰囲気のあるフェイスに。スピードマスターによく見られるベゼルの剥げがないのがポイントの一つです。半ツヤのブラックダイアルに目立った傷は見られません。光にかざすと表れるステップダイアルの陰影を最大限に楽しめます。レターや針のホワイトのプリントは色味がよく残っています。センタークロノのルミナスの辺りにのみ、色づきが確認できます。ルミナスはベージュカラーがとても美しいです。4時から8時は所々が黒くエイジングし、ぶち模様が個性的です。当店にてオーバーホール後、パワーリザーブは48時間以上を確認しております。当時のムーンウォッチをパワフルにお使いいただけます。ビデオにて作動している様子をご確認ください。

今でこそ「Speedmasterイコール宇宙」という図式がすぐに浮かび上がりますが、当時は宇宙とは全く関係のない、純粋なモータースポーツ用の時計として誕生。また、スピードマスターは、ダイヤルではなく外周ベゼルにタキメーターを表示した世界で初めての時計と言われています。1959年、スピードマスターはマイナーチェンジをします。ベゼルがアルミニウムの黒色ベースとなり、針の形状がアロー針からアルファ針に変更されたことで、より視認性が高まっています。NASAは宇宙での過酷な環境にも耐えうる丈夫なクロノグラフを探しており、名だたる強豪に勝ったスピードマスターを公式時計として採用。その後1969年人類初の月面着陸の際、スピードマスターを着用していたことは有名なお話。

The Speedmaster 5th model, which began production in 1968, has a fascinating history of minor changes over its 50-year production period, offering enthusiasts the joy of discovering subtle details. This longevity is one of the reasons behind its status as a long-standing favorite. Among Speedmasters, the 5th model had one of the longest production runs, but focusing on those with a stepped dial narrows down the years considerably. The combination of a three-dimensional dial and twisted lugs is a design feature unique to the Moonwatch. The case, manufactured by Huguenin Freres (HF), bears a serial number of 284+++++ and features an early -69 marking on the inside of the case back. It's a special piece, complemented by the handsome 1171 bracelet.

The case exhibits minimal scratches, preserving its original proportions and earning high praise. The intricate edges of the twisted lugs remain sharp. The bezel has subtly faded, giving the face a vintage charm with a grayish hue. The absence of bezel wear, often seen in Speedmasters, is a noteworthy point. The semi-gloss black dial shows no prominent scratches. When held under light, you can fully appreciate the shadowing of the stepped dial. The white print on the letters and hands remains vivid in color. Some aging is visible only around the luminous material at the center of the chronograph hands. The luminous material exhibits a beautiful beige hue. Aging is evident from 4 o'clock to 8 o'clock, creating a unique patina. Following an overhaul in our workshop, we've confirmed a power reserve of over 48 hours, ensuring robust functionality for this vintage Moonwatch. The historic 1969 NASA moon landing solidified the Speedmaster Professional's status as one of the most important models in the history of timepieces, embodying not only heavy-duty functionality but also the ethos and aesthetics of its time. While today the equation "Speedmaster equals Space" is immediately recognizable, it's important to remember that initially, the Speedmaster was born as a pure motorsports watch with no connection to space. Additionally, the Speedmaster is known as the first watch in the world to feature a tachymeter on the external bezel rather than the dial. In 1959, the Speedmaster underwent a minor change, transitioning to a black aluminum base for the bezel and changing the needle shape from arrow to alpha, improving visibility. NASA sought a robust chronograph capable of withstanding the harsh environment of space, and the Speedmaster, having triumphed over numerous contenders, was officially adopted as the space watch. It's a well-known story that the Speedmaster was worn during the first manned moon landing in 1969.
