COMMENT

ケースは厚みのあるトノー型フォルムで、上下に力強く伸びたシェイプを採用。ベゼルはスクリューイン用のデファイならではの個性的な意匠で、ダイヤルは中央のグレーから外周のライトブラウンへと移ろうグラデーション仕上げです。針はゼニス特有の剣型で構成され、秒針の夜光のみがオレンジ色に彩られ、遊び心のあるアクセントを添えています。300m防水を誇り、当時としては先進的な耐傷性を備えたミネラルクリスタルを搭載しています。

ムーブメントはCal.2562PCを搭載。日付が瞬時に切り替わるジャンピングデイト機構を備え、外周を弾性のある衝撃吸収バンドで支える独自設計により耐衝撃性を実現しています。実用性と堅牢性を両立したゼニスらしいムーブメントです。

ケースは小傷が散見されるものの、輪郭や面取りの鏡面は美しく保たれ、迫力あるシルエットを維持しています。ダイヤルはグラデーションの色調が鮮明。外周のミニッツトラックはプリントが明瞭に保たれています。針とインデックスの夜光はホワイトに近い色味を保持し、全体的にクリアな印象です。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

COMMENT

The case has a bold tonneau-shaped profile with pronounced extensions at the top and bottom, giving it a powerful silhouette. The bezel is a distinctive 14-sided design, framing a gradient dial that transitions from grey at the centre to light brown at the periphery. Zenith’s signature sword-shaped hands are used, with the luminous tip of the seconds hand highlighted in orange, adding a playful accent. Water-resistant to 300 metres, the watch also features a mineral crystal, an advanced scratch-resistant material for its era.

Powered by the Cal.2562PC, the movement incorporates an instantaneous jumping date mechanism and Zenith’s unique shock-absorbing system, where the movement is mounted on an elastic suspension ring around the perimeter. This construction provides enhanced resistance to impact, embodying Zenith’s focus on practicality and durability.

The case shows light surface wear, yet its contours and polished bevels remain crisp, preserving its bold proportions. The dial retains a vivid gradient tone, with a clear and legible minute track at the outer edge. The luminous material on the hands and indexes has aged gracefully, maintaining a near-white tone that reinforces the watch’s fresh and balanced appearance. Serviced by our watchmakers.

Introduced in 1969, the Zenith Defy was conceived as a groundbreaking series that aimed to surpass the existing standards of the Swiss watch industry, prioritising water resistance, shock protection, and scratch resistance.
