OMEGA ref.2179 For US market

COMMENT

中でも代表的なCal.30T2を搭載。

COMMENT

An Omega timepiece equipped with the vintage silver-plated movement of the 30T2 series, boasting a classic movement with a cut compensator for temperature regulation, a fascination that any watchmaker would aspire to touch. During that era, center seconds were still uncommon, and to make it stand out, a blue steel second hand was utilized—a color scheme often seen in Rolex but less frequently in Omega. The charming and distinctive orientation of the Arabic numerals for enhanced visibility. The finely engraved minute track, coupled with the highly visible second hand, synergizes to maximize effectiveness. The robust and rugged case with substantial thickness is both a throwback to the Clous de Paris Calatrava and a high-performance marvel.

The dial, with its color suggesting the passage of time, remains in a uniform state without prominent stains or scratches. The remaining luminescent Arabic numerals exhibit a beautiful beige tone without any noticeable deterioration. While the blue steel second hand is transitioning towards a purple hue, the silver sword hands retain sufficient luster. The case showcases the original hairline finish from that era, preserving its authentic atmosphere in excellent condition.

The conventional Omega 30mm caliber, resembling a pocket watch in a reduced form, is known for its easy repairability and robust construction. Despite nearly 80 years since its creation, with proper maintenance, it demonstrates a power reserve of 39 hours and an accuracy of approximately +10 seconds per day.

The Cal.30 series, a catalyst that propelled OMEGA to a global brand, particularly the iconic Cal.30T2. Introduced in 1939, the 30mm caliber gets its name from the movement's diameter. Created with the simple intention of accommodating a larger balance wheel for enhanced accuracy, this remarkable mechanism undoubtedly remains a masterpiece in horological history. After OMEGA unveiled this movement, it significantly influenced other manufacturers, leading to a series of calibers emulating the 30mm diameter and a large balance wheel. SC denotes the center seconds.
