COMMENT

1978年に再始動したサントスの系譜を汲む、CARTIER Santos Carrée LM Ref.2961。ステンレスと18Kイエローゴールドのバイカラーを基調に、ベゼルとブレスレットへ連続するビス意匠が、機能美としての緊張感を生みます。角の丸いスクエアケースとフラットリンクのブレスレットが一体となり、スポーツウォッチとしての輪郭を保ちながら、カルティエらしい端正さを崩しません。

ケースは輪郭が整い、面の印象が保たれています。ブレスレットは全体のまとまりが良く、日常使用に支障を感じさせません。ダイヤルはノンクラックで、質感の変化が穏やかです。針の見え方は良好で、判読性を損ねる要素は目立ちません。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

ボルドー（バーガンディ）ダイヤルは1980年代の限られた期間に展開された仕様とされ、通常のローマ数字ダイヤルとはまったく異なる空気をまといます。 深みのある赤は光量で表情が変わり、ビス留めベゼルとブレスレットの直線的な構成を、よりモダンに見せる効果があります。ミニッツトラックやローマ数字を排したミニマルなフェイスが、サントス カレのプロダクトとしての輪郭をいっそう鮮明にします。

BRAND

ビス留めのケースは飛行機のパーツを繋ぐネジがモチーフで、機体をイメージしてダイヤルなどの角がまるみを帯びたデザイン。現在ではジュエラーとして名高いカルティエですが、まだ懐中時計が主流だった1904年に本格的な腕時計を製作したのはカルティエが最初。アルベルト・サントス・デュモンという飛行家からの「飛行中に手を離さずに見ることができる時計がほしい。」という依頼が誕生のきっかけで、「サントス」の名を冠した腕時計が1911年に一般発売されました。

COMMENT

The CARTIER Santos Carrée LM Ref. 2961 follows the lineage of the Santos collection relaunched in 1978. Executed in a two-tone combination of stainless steel and 18K yellow gold, the continuous screw motifs running across the bezel and bracelet create a sense of functional tension. The softly rounded square case integrates seamlessly with the flat-link bracelet, preserving the outline of a sports watch while maintaining Cartier’s unmistakable refinement.

The case retains well-defined contours, with the integrity of its surfaces preserved. The bracelet remains cohesive overall and does not detract from everyday wear. The dial is free from cracks, with only gentle changes in texture over time. The hands remain clear in appearance, and no elements significantly compromise legibility. The Bordeaux (burgundy) dial is believed to have been produced only for a limited period during the 1980s, and it carries an atmosphere entirely distinct from the standard Roman numeral dial. Its deep red tone shifts subtly with changing light, lending a more modern impression to the linear construction of the screw-set bezel and bracelet. The omission of a minute track and Roman numerals results in a minimalist face that further sharpens the product identity of the Santos Carrée.

The screw-set case design was inspired by the exposed rivets used in aircraft construction, while the softly rounded corners of the dial evoke the form of an airplane fuselage. Today widely recognized as a prestigious jeweler, Cartier was also a pioneer in wristwatch design, producing one of the earliest purpose-built wristwatches in 1904, when pocket watches still dominated. The watch was created at the request of aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, who sought a timepiece that could be read without removing his hands from the controls during flight. The model bearing his name, the “Santos,” was released to the public in 1911 and remains one of the earliest icons of modern wristwatch design.
