COMMENT

70年代らしいスペーシーなデザインが魅力のオメガ。ダイナミックの中でもクッションのような形をした、クッションケースと呼ばれる珍しい意匠です。ふっくらと膨らんだドーム風防はスノードームを思わせるような、広がりのある空間です。
時計全面にヘアラインを施しています。ツートンダイアルの内側はシルバーの地に放射状のもの施しています。一段上がった外側は、ネイビーにきめ細やかな同心円状のヘアラインを施しています。インデックスは外側をくり抜き、内側の地を出した凝ったデザイン。珍しい角型タイプに加え、オリジナルブレスが付属するのは高ポイント。

ケースは小傷の少ない良コンディション。ダイアル中心部は油膜がはっきりと現存しており、シャボン玉のような虹色の虹彩を見せます。 

550番台以降のキャリバーは、可能な限り無駄を省いたスマートで完成された機械へと以降します。そのおかげでデザインの規制が軽減され、よりスタイリッシュなフェイスが実現されています。奇抜なデザインですが、3針デイト付きでデイリーユースのに使い勝手の良い時計です。

腕時計が普及し始めた1910年代から手巻き、自動巻と変遷を経て、クオーツ時計の開発によって機械式時計が衰退します。それ以前の1960年代に機械式腕時計はひとつのピークに達します。当時は日本でも三種の神器の一つだったオメガの時計。持つ人のステータスとなる高級品で、各メーカーが精度や防水性、耐久性など切磋琢磨し開発した時代。コストをかけて、より良い時計造りのためにしのぎを削っていました。

COMMENT

This Omega watch embodies the spacey design aesthetic typical of the 1970s. Among the Dynamic series, it features the unique cushion case, which resembles a cushion in shape. The domed crystal, reminiscent of a snow globe, creates a broad and expansive visual effect. The watch face is adorned with a hairline finish throughout. The two-tone dial has a radial pattern on the silver inner section and a fine concentric hairline pattern on the elevated navy outer section. The intricate indices are cut out from the outer part to reveal the inner base. The unusual rectangular indices and the original bracelet add high points to this model.

The case is in good condition with few minor scratches. The centre of the dial retains a distinct oily film, displaying an iridescent rainbow effect like a soap bubble.

Calibres from the 550 series onwards transitioned to a smart and refined design, eliminating unnecessary elements. This allowed for more stylish faces, reducing design constraints. Despite its bold design, this watch is practical for daily use with its three hands and date feature.

From the 1910s, as wristwatches began to gain popularity, Omega evolved through hand-wound and automatic movements, before the development of quartz watches led to a decline in mechanical watches. During the 1960s, mechanical wristwatches reached a peak, and Omega was considered one of the Three Sacred Treasures in Japan, symbolising high status. It was an era when brands fiercely competed to improve accuracy, water resistance, and durability, investing significant resources to create superior watches.
