ROLEX DATEJUST Big Coronet Black Gilt Dial 14KYG Ref.1601

COMMENT

COMMENT

The 14K yellow gold case is defined by its fluted bezel and a circular hairline finish across the upper surface. Its lugs are constructed without side holes, underscoring a refined dress aesthetic. The black mirror dial is among the most coveted configurations, featuring gilt-printed lettering and minute track. The indexes are embossed, while the oversized flat coronet at twelve o’clock conveys striking presence. Paired with non-luminous dauphine hands and faceted wedge-shaped markers, the watch exemplifies the craftsmanship and design integrity of vintage Rolex.

The case shows only the lightest signs of wear, its soft curves along the sides preserved in excellent condition without noticeable marks. The dial has aged minimally, retaining exceptional mirror gloss with no shift in tone. The hands exhibit only faint patina, their bifurcated facets sharply reflecting the light. The indexes remain remarkably well-preserved, free from notable blemishes or discoloration. Serviced and disassembled by our watchmaker.

The flat, oversized coronet rising against the gilt dial immediately signals its distinctive status. The combination of a solid gold case with a black mirror finish projects the dignity of a high-end model, while the harmony of its classical details tempers any excess, resulting in a presence that is both profound and composed. It is a piece that conveys weight and refinement yet radiates a quiet elegance, embodying a timeless sense of luxury that endures across generations.

Universally admired, the Datejust remains Rolex’s longest-running model. It was the world’s first wristwatch to feature a date mechanism that changes instantly at midnight, a hallmark innovation from Rolex. Introduced in 1945, it is also the oldest model in the brand’s regular collection. Available in men’s, ladies’, and mid-size versions across a wide range of materials, its enduring appeal lies in this versatility and timeless design.
