SEIKO 150M DIVER REF.6306-7001 SCUBAPRO 450

COMMENT

The Seiko 150M Diver Ref. 6306-7001 “Scubapro 450” is a special domestic-market edition introduced in the late 1970s, distinguished by the rare “Scubapro 450” inscription on the dial. Unlike the standard 6306-7001, this model is believed to have been produced in strictly limited numbers, making it one of the most sought-after references in the vintage Seiko lineup. The cushion-shaped stainless steel case measures approximately 44mm and was engineered with robust construction and 150-meter water resistance (at the time). The matte black dial, paired with bold hands and oversized indexes, offers excellent legibility in keeping with its tool-watch origins. It is equipped with the original strap from that time.

Powering the watch is the 21-jewel Cal. 6306A, a movement made specifically for the Japanese domestic market, featuring hacking seconds and bilingual day display in Japanese and English. The dial code “700J T” is present, serving as a key indicator of authenticity for this original Scubapro 450 dial. Unlike the later Cal. 6309-based models, this reference was produced for only a short period through restricted distribution, making surviving examples exceedingly scarce and highly valued among collectors. Seiko’s collaboration with the international diving equipment brand Scubapro stands as a rare and distinctive chapter in the company’s history. The “Scubapro 450” inscription provides a clear benchmark for authentication, ensuring confidence in its originality. Celebrated as one of the most coveted and uncommon vintage Seiko divers, this model combines rarity, provenance, and undeniable presence, securing its place as a truly exceptional piece.

The 1960s was a period of significant development for mechanical wristwatches, reaching a level of near perfection. Seiko advanced in both accuracy competitions and mass production, catching up with and surpassing global standards. At the same time, the "electronification of watches" progressed, and in December 1969, Seiko launched the world's first quartz wristwatch, marking a major shift from mechanical to quartz watches.
