18Kイエローゴールドケースを採用したオイスターパーペチュアル Ref.6558です。シャンパンカラーの文字盤には放射状のサンレイ仕上げが施され、光を受ける角度によって表情を変えます。バーインデックスとドーフィンハンドを配した端正な構成に、外周のミニッツトラックが引き締まった印象を添えています。中央の秒針は矢印型の先端を持つ特徴的なデザインです。ムーブメントは自動巻きCal.1040を搭載しています。

ケースには経年による細かな使用痕が見られますが、ゴールドケースの存在感とラグの輪郭はしっかりと保たれています。文字盤は均整の取れた色調とサンレイの質感が残り、インデックスや針はダイヤルによく映えます。Ref.6556由来の秒針を備えながら、文字盤には「TRU-BEAT」の表記がなく、通常運針の仕様へ変更された本個体ならではの組み合わせも目を引きます。弊社にて分解掃除済みです。

Ref.6556は、Cal.1040のデッドビート機構によって秒針が1秒ごとに進むトゥルービートとして製造されました。その後、機構の扱いにくさから回収・仕様変更が行われ、工場に残ったRef.6556のケースや部品を活用して、通常運針のRef.6558として販売されたと考えられています。 本個体では、ムーブメントにCal.1040の刻印が残り、ケースバックもRef.6556のまま、ケース側面のリファレンスは「6556」の6に8を加えた「6558」へ変更されています。トゥルービート表記のない文字盤と矢印秒針を含め、モデルの移行過程を複数のディテールに宿した一本です。

COMMENT

The Oyster Perpetual Ref. 6558 is housed in an 18K yellow gold case. Its champagne-colored dial has a radial sunburst finish that changes subtly with the light. Baton indexes and dauphine hands create a clean, balanced appearance, while the peripheral minute track adds definition. The central seconds hand is distinguished by its arrow-shaped tip. Inside is the automatic Cal. 1040.

The case shows minor signs of wear consistent with age, while the solid-gold presence and contours of the lugs remain well preserved. The dial retains an even tone and clearly defined sunburst texture, with the hands and indexes standing out attractively against its surface. This example also presents an unusual combination: a seconds hand associated with Ref. 6556, no “TRU-BEAT” signature on the dial, and a movement modified for conventional running seconds. Ref. 6556 was produced as the Tru-Beat, using the deadbeat-seconds mechanism of Cal. 1040 to advance the seconds hand in one-second increments. It is believed that operational difficulties led to watches being recalled and modified, with remaining Ref. 6556 cases and components subsequently used for conventionally running Ref. 6558 examples. On this watch, the movement retains its Cal. 1040 engraving and the inside case back remains marked Ref. 6556, while the case-side reference was altered from “6556” to “6558” by adding an “8” to the final digit. Together with the unsigned dial and arrow-tipped seconds hand, these details preserve clear evidence of the model’s transitional history.
